Fortis Healthcare charitable Trust (FCT)
Established in November 2005, the foundation and the trust are placed under the aegis of the “Centre for Community Initiatives (CCI)”.
The objective of CCI is to take some key programs at the group level and drive them through out the group companies and to the community at large. This in no way compromises the programs which have been undertaken by our network hospitals based on the regional specificities and needs, such as the girl child etc. Hence the new structure not only complements the work done by the units but endeavors to accord some programs importance across the company by institutionalizing them at the group level while ensuring that the units retain their operating flexibility and freedom by continuing to create and run their own programs.
The endeavor at Fortis Healthcare is to touch people’s lives.
The spread of program under the Fortis Healthcare charitable Trust (FCT) and Fortis Healthcare charitable Foundation (FCF) is impressive. Over the last year the CCI programs have touched hundreds of hearts and helped many more.
We identified the following as our key focus areas:
- HIV/AIDS awareness
- School Children
- Healthcare for Rural India
- Community Outreach
- Focus on girl children
Program under the foundation and the trust cover the above mentioned focus areas. Here is a brief overview of the program
Fortis Healthcare charitable Trust (FCT)
Telemedicine
Telemedicine program at Fortis Healthcare reaches out to rural India to provide specialized healthcare services.
Fortis Healthcare targets small hospitals, nursing homes, clinics and Diagnostic centers in small towns to set up Tele- medicine or Tele ECG centers. These centres link up to Fortis Healthcare specialist centers through ISDN or Normal telephone lines. As a part of our telemedicine initiative ISRO has provided us VSAT connectivity.
22 tie ups with hospitals/ medical colleges and 2 NGOs have been done so far.
Chiranjeevi
Chiranjeevi is the first-of-its-kind low-cost healthcare product that is specifically designed to address the preventive and curative medical needs of the school children of our country. The healthcare services provided would be delivered through a network of hospitals backed by an insurance company.
Apart from free OPDs, the scheme offers a bouquet of services including health talks at schools.
Last year, in a pilot project, 6000+ students were covered through the scheme. The scheme will cover 20,000 students this year.
Revival / Upgradation of Community Hospitals
1) Sanjay Gandhi Hospital (SGH)
In February this year, Fortis Healthcare entered into an understanding to take over the management and running of the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital (SGH), located at Amethi which provides subsidized medical and healthcare to the people of Amethi and its surrounding areas. However, over the years the hospital has fallen short of meeting its objectives and had solicited private hospitals to support and manage the facility.
Fortis Healthcare has broadly undertaken the following:
- Planning of departments and consequently structural improvements,
- Training of doctors present at Amethi in our hospital at Noida,
- Posting of a medical super indent, nursing super indent and administrator at Amethi.
- Numerous medical and management teams from our hospitals have visited Amethi related to engineering, ICU, emergency, gynae, general surgery etc.
2) Khushi Neemrana:
Fortis Healthcare has also helped KHUSHII in setting up of their day care centre at Neemrana by providing support to set up telemedicine centre and linking it with Fortis Healthcare telemedicine system. Support was also extended to train their staff, assist in procuring technical equipment and set up systems and procedures.
Golden Age Club for senior citizens

As members of Fortis Healthcare golden Age Club, senior citizens have the privilege of accessing world-class medical facilities at special discounts and concessions.
Any Indian citizen aged above 60 years can become a member and avail the privileges offered under this scheme
Nearly 400 members have enrolled under this scheme.
SAHAYAK – Fortis Healthcare dialysis Support Initiative
Sahayak is a recently initiated support group for dialysis patients, most of who are visiting FHM almost three times a week, and are therefore special guests. Sahayak supports queries and health issues of patients of the region who may not have been treated by Fortis Healthcare. This voluntary support group organizes quarterly meetings, where senior doctors interact informally with the patients, and members share their thoughts with each other. Often experts/pharmaceutical advisors are called to tell the patients about the latest developments in dialysis. The group has about 40 members.
This initiative has also been widely appreciated, especially since Dialysis patients and their attendants perceive it as a forum to discuss their problems with the doctors. The Clinical Nutritionist especially draws out a menu for the lunch/tea that follows each meeting.
The meetings are a combination of:
- Doctors’ lectures and presentations
- Q and A sessions
- Voicing of suggestions
- Variety entertainment
- Representation of Pharma-ceutical companies that have introduced new drugs/ contraptions in the market
- Lunch/tea
CHETNA – The initiative for Girl Child
The objective of the project is to ensure that the girl child in this region has better health care facilities available to her. The time has come to make a change, to begin a movement that assures every girl a life with dignity. It is time that the girl child is celebrated for who she is and what she means for the future of our country. It is time to end the existing discrimination against the girl child in her access to nutrition and physical and mental health services that endanger her current and future health. It is time to act now- to ensure that the girl child is not ill treated, exploited and abused!
