Dr. Kaul is a distinguished cardiologist, and a veritable pioneer of coronary interventions in India.
He is credited with introducing into India such innovative Interventional Cardiology techniques as rotational and directional atherectomy, coronary stenting, percutaneous laser myocardial revascularization and percutaneous cardiopulmonary bypass technique for performing a high-risk coronary angioplasty.
A former Professor of Cardiology at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Dr. Kaul is on the faculty of several leading universities in the USA, Europe, Far East, China and Australia.
Dr. Kaul is a past President of the Cardiological Society of India, and is the recipient of numerous prestigious professional awards, among them the Dr. B.C. Roy Award. He is currently Vice-President of the SAARC Cardiac Society.

Dr. Kalra completed his MD in Medicine from AIIMS in 1982, receiving his DM Cardiology from this same prestigious institute in 1985. After serving as Senior Resident Cardiology at AIIMS, he widened his experience at PGIMER Chandigarh, for one year prior to joining the staff of G.B. Pant Hospital.
Dr. Kalra has performed more than 8000 interventional procedures, including 5000 metral valvotomies and 600 PDA closures by various devices. Both achievements are considered to be amongst the highest numbers performed by a single doctor in the world. Nationally, he holds the distinction of having performed the highest number of ASD closures (200) and VSD closures (150). Dr. Kalra has trained Cardiologists from Australia , France, Saudi Arabia and the USA in metral valvotomy and device closure. As an internationally recognized Cardiologist, Dr. Kalra is the convener of the Cardiac Registry of India.
During his career, Dr. Kalra has introduced the use of several closure devices such as Rashkind umbrella device, Siders Buttoned Device, ASDOS, Cardio seal, Starflex, Coils and Ductocclud.
