Neurology
 Neurological services in hospital deals with diagnosis and management of all the neurological diseases - stroke, epilepsy, headache, parkinson disease, movement disorders (tremors, myoclonus, chorea, tics), dementia, memory impairment, pain stiffness, spasm, spasticity in limbs, neuralgic pain, peripheral neuropathy, muscle disease, myasthenia, multiple sclerosis, demyelinating disease, meningitis, encephalitis.
FACILITIES
Neurolectrophysiology Lab is equipped with electroencephalogram (EEG) and Nerve Conduction Study (NCS) machines.
Following tests are done in the Lab:-
- EEG
- Sleep deprived EEG
- Video EEG
- Nerve Conduction Study
- Repetitive Nerve Simulation test
- Visual evoked potential (VEP)
- Brainstem evoked potential (BAEP)
- Somatosensory evoked potential (SSEP)
These tests are carried out by experienced technician and reported by a neurologist, thus enabling the correlation of clinical symptoms with investigation reports.
There is availability of CT and MRI head in the hospital complex which helps in quicker diagnosis and better coordination of things.
Other special facilities
Acute treatment of stroke :-
Round the clock facility for treatment of stroke is available in the hospital. It is known that each second after stroke is critical and treatment should be started as early as possible.
For patients who come within 3 hours of onset of stroke to the hospital, thrombolytic therapy (clot dissolving therapy) with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rtPA) can be administered. Patient is kept in intensive care unit for 48-72 hours where all the modern gadgets and expert manpower is available. Equal importance is given to rehabilitation of stroke patients.
Management of status epilepticus:-
As patient having continuous seizures should be monitored in ICU, there is facility for continuous EEG monitoring. Brain waves are continuously recorded on screen and treatment is carried out accordingly.
Management of acute demyelinating neuropathy or myasthenia crisis :-
We have the expertise to do plasma exchange (plasmaphersis) in our hospital for patients with guillane barre syndrome or myasthenic crisis. In this plasma (white content of blood) is removed and replaced with fresh frozen plasma or albumin. Such patients require blood bank, ICU facilities which is available in the hospital.
Muscle / Nerve Biopsy :-
in cases of myopathy and neuropathy.
Botulinum toxin injection :-
It is indicated for spasticity, blepherospasm, hemifacial spasm, cervical dystonia, writers cramp. Refractory migraine (headache) episodes also benefit from botox therapy.
