UNCOOKED FOOD, faulty lifestyles and accidents are to blame for the brain defects that have triggered an alarming rise in epilepsy cases in the city, as revealed during a camp on “World Epilepsy Day” at Escorts Heart and Super Specialty Institute here on Saturday.
Managing the camp, nuero-surgeon Dr. Raj Kamal and nuerologist Dr. Sachin Mishra of the Hospital said 62 patients suffering from the debilitating disease had received free consultation and medicine during the day.
About 30% of the patients who attended the camp today had central nervous system (CNS) infection, while others suffered fits owing to brain tumour or head injury after accident. Of these patients, 50% were women. |
