CARDIO THORACIC & VASCULAR
SURGERY

 Dr. T. S. MAHANT  

Dr. T.S. Mahant is the Executive Director, Cardio Thoracic & Vascular Surgery.

He passed his MS Surgery (1978) and MCh. Cardiovascular Surgery (1981) from PGIMER Chandigarh. Over the years he has trained in Australia, New Zealand and the United States of America. He was Professor of Cardiac Surgery at SGPGI, Lucknow (1990 - 1995), following which he took on the role of Chief of Cardiac Surgery at Batra Hospital, New Delhi. Dr. Mahant has had an extremely successful 8 year tenure at Batra Hospital, spearheading the hospital's cardiac program to great heights while he was there.

Dr. Mahant is an asset with over twenty years of rich experience in the field of Heart Surgery, having worked with top hospitals both in the country and overseas. He has performed more than 20,000 surgeries ranging from newborns to 90 year old, simple to complex, congenital diseases, as well as various thoracic and vascular surgeries.

 

Dr. AMBUJ CHOUDHARY

Dr. Ambuj Choudhary is Senior Consultant, Cardio Thoracic & Vascular Surgery.

A pass out from Mayo College, Ajmer, Dr. Choudhary completed his MBBS from S.P. Medical College, Bikaner (1988). He did his MS in General Surgery from SMS Medical College, Jaipur (1993) and M.Ch degree from SGPGI, Lucknow (1996). Dr. Choudhary also acquired a Diplomate of National Board (DNB) in Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery in 1996.

After completing his MCh, Dr. Choudhary went on to work with Dr. T. S. Mahant and joined Batra Hospital, New Delhi as a Consultant in Cardiac Surgery in January 1997.

He was selected for the Starr Ahmed International Fellowship program at the St. Vincent's Hospital and Research Center in Portland, Oregon, USA in 2000.

During the 2 year period he got an opportunity to work with Dr. Albert Starr, who performed the first heart valve replacement surgery in the world and designed the Starr Edwards Ball and Cage Valve. Dr. Choudhary also got to work with Dr. Storm Floten, Dr. Aftab Ahmed and Dr. Jeffery Swanson. During the fellowship, he got extensive experience in aortic aneurysm surgery, valve repair and replacement, minimal invasive surgery and also had hands on experience on Da Vinci Robotic System.

Having gained the American experience, Dr. Choudhary came back to India and joined Batra Hospital as a Senior Consultant in Cardiac Surgery in 2002. His areas of expertise are beating heart surgery, valve surgery, aortic aneurysm, aortic dissection surgery and minimal invasive cardiac surgery.

He has worked at some of the leading hospitals in India like S.M.S, Jaipur, SGPGI, Lucknow and Batra Hospital, New Delhi before joining Fortis Hospital, Mohali on December 15, 2004.

 

 Dr. VIRENDAR SARWAL  

Dr. Virendar Sarwal is Senior Consultant, Cardio Thoracic & Vascular Surgery.

He passed his MBBS and MS in General Surgery from Govt. Medical College, Patiala and did his M.Ch in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery from PGIMER, Chandigarh.

Dr. Sarwal worked at Escorts Heart Institute And Research Center, New Delhi and Batra Hospital, New Delhi for over 3 years as attending Cardiac Surgeon and Junior Consultant, following which he joined PGI on faculty as Asstt. Professor. While associated with PGI, Dr. Sarwal was instrumental in starting the CABG program and designing the now upcoming Cardiac Centre.

He has also played a key role in the design and commissioning of City Hospital and Heart Care Center , Chandigarh (now Mukat Hospital ) where he worked as Founder Director (Medical) and Sr. Cardiac Surgeon. Dr. Sarwal has been with the Apollo Hospitals, New Delhi as Associate Consultant and as Sr. Consultant & Chief Cardiac Surgeon at Malhotra Heart institute, New Delhi . Besides, he also has experience of 4 years in teaching postgraduates.

Dr. Sarwal's key areas of interest are adult as well as paediatric cardiac surgery.  Dr. MOHAN NAIR  

Dr. Mohan Nair is Visiting Consultant, Cardiac Surgery & Arrhythmia services.

Among the leading Electrophysiologist of South Asia, Dr. Nair is responsible of anchoring Electrophysiology procedures across all Fortis Hospitals in India .

He completed his MBBS (1979) and MD in Internal Medicine (1984) from Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi after which he did his DM in Cardiology (1987) from G B Pant Hospital, New Delhi. He also obtained the prestigious Fellowship in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology at University Hospital, Rouen, France in the year 1995

Over the years, Dr. Nair has practiced extensively in the field of interventional cardiology and electrophysiology. His work experience includes over 5000 coronary angioplasty procedures and 300 balloon mitral valvuloplasties. His experience in electrophysiology includes nearly 3500 diagnostic EP procedures and 2500 radiofrequency catheter ablations.

Dr. Nair has been responsible for setting up of EP programs in various hospitals and institutions in India, China and Sri Lanka. and has also been on the faculty of live physician education program on angioplasty and electrophysiology in France, Sri Lanka and in China and Sri Lanka, and has been at the forefront of pacing and defibrillator therapy in India and is currently the designated proctor for Atrio Biventricular Pacing in the country.

Dr. H.K. Bali

Dr. H.K. Bali is Director, Cardiology

Dr. H.K. Bali completed his M.B.B.S. in 1981 from Jammu University and accomplished his M.D. (Medicine) in1985 and D.M. (Cardiology) in 1988, both from PGIMER, Chandigarh.

A renowned cardiologist, Dr Bali served for over 25 years at PGIMER, Chandigarh, where he was associated as the Additional Professor prior to joining Fortis Healthcare. Dr Bali has also officiated as Senior Cardiologist & Coordinator of the Department of Cardiology (On Ex-India Leave), at Apollo Hospital, Colombo, Sri Lanka from December 2004 to February 2006.

Dr. Bali has extensive experience of performing both elective and emergency coronary interventions and has been responsible for introducing primary angioplasty for patients of acute myocardioal infarction in this region. He has performed more than 3000 coronary angioplasties and more than 2500 coronary artery stenting as first operator. This includes interventions in patients with stable coronary artery disease, acute coronary syndrome, acute myocardial infarction, cardiogenic shock and patients with severe left ventricular dysfunction.

A renowned cardiologist, Dr. Bali has received several international and national awards and recognitions, including the prestigious D.P. Basu Young Investigators Award at Bombay in 1990. Dr. GURCHARAN SINGH KALRA

Dr. Gurcharan Singh Kalra, MD, DM is Director, Cardiac Catheterization

Laboratories. He did his MD in Medicine (1982), DM in Cardiology (1985) from AIIMS, New Delhi, followed by a fellowship from University of Birmingham, UK. Dr. Kalra joined Fortis Hospital, Mohali after 13 distinguished years as a Cardiologist with G.B. Pant Hospital, New Delhi.

Having to his credit more than 15000 Interventional procedures, Dr. Kalra shows special interest in device closure of valvular defects and has introduced the use of several closure devices such as Rashkind Umbrella Device, Siders Buttoned Device, Asdos, Cardio Seal, Starflex, Coils and Ductocclud.

Dr. Jagmohan Singh Varma, MD, DM is Head of Department, Cardiology.

His 17-year tenure at the reputed PGIMER, Chandigarh culminated with Dr. Varma serving as the Head of Department of Cardiology. Having more than 20,000 coronary angiography and interventional procedures to his credit, he is a vastly experienced trainer of postgraduates and post - poctoral students in invasive and non-invasive cardiology practices. Dr. R. K. JASWAL

Dr. R.K. Jaswal is Additional Director, Interventional Cardiology.

He passed his MBBS and MD in Medicine from Govt. Medical College, Amritsar. He did his DM in Cardiology from PGI Chandigarh, after which he joined the Dept. of Cardiology at Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla. During his stay there he was sent to AIIMS, Delhi for training in invasive cardiology.

Dr. Jaswal has practiced extensively for over four years in Chandigarh and Panchkula and has previously served as Senior Interventional Cardiologist at Mukat Hospital & Heart Institute, Chandigarh. He has performed nearly 10000 invasive procedures and nearly 2100 coronary interventions. Dr. Jaswal also has to his credit more than 1200 transradial procedures including nearly 300 transradial P.T.C.A.s, the highest in this part of the country. Over the years, he has been performing all types of balloon valvotomies, perephral angioplasties, device closures and paediatric cardiology interventions on patients from Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, HP, J&K, and Western UP.

ENDOCRINOLOGY

Dr. K. P. Singh

Dr. K.P. Singh is Senior Consultant , Endocrinology.

Postgraduate in Medicine Dr. KP Singh MD, DM, FICN, did his super - specialization in Endocrinology after which he worked as an Assistant Professor in Endocrinology at PGIMER, Chandigarh. Dr. KP Singh has also been responsible for establishing the Department of Endocrinology at the S.V. Institute of Medical Services, Tirupati and Andhra Pradesh.

Having more than 15 years of experience in this field, Dr. Singh is credited with largest work in Asia on metabolic bone diseases and osteoporosis in International collaboration with Dr. S. P. S. Teotia (Bangalore). He is the First author of one of land mark studies in world on the growth hormone treatment in burns. He has published more than 50 original studies in American, British and Indian journals and edited and co – authored many International text books.

Dr. KP Singh is a visiting fellow to 6 American and Canadian Universities. He is the only doctor in North India to be awarded a certificate at the Global Advanced Therapeutics and Technologies in Diabetes Care Program, at the International Diabetes center of the World Health organization (WHO) at Park Nocollet, USA in September 2007.

 

PAEDIATRIC CARDIOLOGY

Dr. VISHAL K. SINGH

Dr. Vishal K. Singh is Consultant, Paediatrics & Critical Care.

He finished his MD in Paediatrics (1999) and joined as faculty at Govt. Medical College, Surat . He later completed his 2-year fellowship-training program at Madras Medical Mission, Chennai in Paediatric Cardiac Critical Care. He was Consultant, Paediatric Cardiac Critical Care at Apollo Hospital, Hyderabad before joining Fortis Hospital, Mohali. He specializes in the care of infants and neonates, especially those who are operated for congenital heart disease.

 


ANAESTHESIA

Dr. MANORANJAN SAHOO

Dr. Manoranjan Sahoo is Senior Consultant & Head of Department, Cardio Thoracic Anesthesia.

He did his MBBS (1991) from S.C.B. Medical College, Cuttack and M.D. in Anesthesia (1995) from B.J. Medical College, Pune. Dr. Sahoo did his DNB (1995) and became MNAMS (1998). He has held the position of Registrar at N.M. Wadia Institute of Cardiology, Pune (1995 - 1996), and was Senior Resident Cardiac Anaesthesia (1996 - 1998) and Assistant Professor Cardiac Anaesthesia (1998 - 2001) at AIIMS, New Delhi before joining Fortis Hospital, Mohali.

Dedicated and patient focused, Dr. Sahoo is trained in cardiac anaesthesia, and is also an expert in critical care having versatile experience of managing all types of complicated cardiac surgical cases such as CABG, valve replacement, congenital heart disease and vascular diseases, both adult as well as pediatric.

She did her MBBS (1986) from CMC, Ludhiana and MD in Anesthesia (1993) from PGIMER, Chandigarh. She has held the position of Senior Resident Anesthesia (1993-1996) at PGIMER, Chandigarh, after which she was a practicing anesthesiologist and intensivist till 2004.

 Dr. KRISHAN MOHAN KAPOOR



Dr. Krishan Mohan Kapoor is Senior Consultant & Head of Department, Cosmetic Surgery.

He did his MBBS and MS (General Surgery) from Govt. Medical College, Punjabi University, Patiala followed by M.Ch. (Plastic Surgery) from Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh. He completed his Diplomate of National Board Exam (DNB) in Plastic Surgery and is an Indian National Board certified Plastic Surgeon.

Before joining Fortis Hospital, Mohali, Dr. Kapoor was working with PGIMER where he trained in dealing with burn injuries, hand injuries and reconstruction.

Actively involved in research, publication and presentation of papers to a wide variety of organizations, worldwide, Dr. Kapoor has been awarded the best paper award for "Palliation with Mousseau Barbin tube in carcinoma esophagus" at Young Surgeon's Forum at the Association of Surgeons of India Conference (Northern chapter) held in Faridabad, India in 1995. He has also received the Kamath Memorial Award for best poster presentation titled "Single stage reconstruction for traumatic amputation of penis" at 34th Annual Conference of Association of Plastic Surgeon of India at Goa, India in 1999.

Dr. Amit Trehan

Dr. Amit Trehan is Senior Consultant, Gastroenterology

Dr. Amit Trehan completed is MBBS (1989) from Government Medical College, Patiala. He did his Diplomat – American Board of Internal Medicine in December 1993 and Diplomat – American Board of Gastroenterology in November 1998. He has also obtained a Fellowship in Gastroenterology (1996) from Sarah C Upham Division of Gastroenterology, New York Medical College, New York

Having rich experience in the field of Gastroenterology, Dr. Trehan has held coveted positions in several leading hospitals. He was the Attending Physician with Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Centre, New York from July 1993 to June 1994 and worked with Baptist St. Anthony’s Hospital, Amarillo, Texas; North West Texas Hospital and Veterans’ Affair Hospital between 1996 to 2006 . Before joining Fortis Hospital, Dr. Trehan was holding the position of Consulting Physician and President with Amarillo Endoscopy Centre, Amarillo, Texas since September 2001.

Dr. ARVIND SAHNI

Dr. Arvind Sahni is Director, Gastroenterology.

He completed his MBBS from Christian Medical College, Ludhiana, after which he did his MD in Paediatrics and DM in Gastroenterology from PGIMER, Chandigarh. Dr. Sahni then went on to work briefly in a Liver Transplant Unit in Birmingham, UK and numerous other hospitals in Ireland till 1993. He then moved to Chandigarh and worked with Chandigarh Medical Centre as Consultant, Gastroenterology, before joining Fortis Hospital, Mohali.

Dr. Sahni besides being a Gold Medallist has won many other distinctions in his field. He was elected to the membership of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom in 1991. Dr. Sahni also heads the Fortis Healthcare city Centre, Chandigarh.

 

Dr. MOHNISH CHHABRA  

Dr. Mohnish Chhabra is Senior Consultant, Gastroenterology & Hepatology.

He did his MBBS from Rohtak Medical College (1991), MD in Pediatrics (1995) and DM in Gastroenterology (1999) from PGIMER, Chandigarh.

His main areas of interest are therapeutic hepatobiliary and pancreatic procedures (ERCP). Besides being an active endoscopist, he has a keen interest in the field of hepatology with vast experience in the treatment of chronic hepatitis B & C and alcoholic liver disease.

Dr. Chhabra has been actively associated with the Indian Medical Association, and has been invited to share his updates in the field of gastroenterology at various meetings of IMA. GENERAL SURGERY

Dr. N. M. GUPTA

Dr. N. M. Gupta, MS, FAMS is Director, General Surgery.

He completed his MBBS (1963) from Government Medical College, Amritsar after which he moved to PGI, Chandigarh in 1965. Upon successful completion of his MS Surgery degree, he joined PGI, Chandigarh as a Registrar. He superannuated from the PGI, Chandigarh in 2002 as Professor and Head of Department, Surgery.

Dr. Gupta has worked extensively in the field of general surgery, particularly in oesophageal surgery and has to his credit the honor of being a Past President of the Indian Association of Surgical Gastroenterology. He has conducted many workshops at regional and national conferences to spread awareness about oesophageal surgery and published over 150 articles in national and international journals concerning general and oesophageal surgery. By virtue of his acknowledged skill and vast experience in the field, he was appointed Honorary Advisor to the Armed Forces by the Ministry of Defence.

 

Dr. NAVIN C RAINA

Dr. Navin C Raina, MS, FAIS is Senior Consultant, General Surgery.

An expert at performing advanced laparocopic procedures, Dr. Raina was the first to start major surgical resections in the region in private healthcare sector, including Whipple's operation for pancreatic cancer, total pelvic exenteration for advanced genital cancer in females besides TFD with transthoracic esophagectomy in cancer of food pipe. His recent interest has been minimal access surgery and its application in cancer patients.

Dr. Raina has attended short fellowship program in advance laparoscopy at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, NC, USA, organised by the Department of General Surgery under Dr. Frederick L.Greene, who is also the current President of the prestigious Society of American Gastro-Intestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES). He has also completed a project on 'Liver Resections in Malignancy' under the auspices of Prof S.Bengmark of Lund University, Sweden .

Dr. Raina has been the recipient of the outstanding performance certificate from the Governor of Neighbor while in service with Ministry Of Health and Curative Network, I.R., Iran and has also received "Recognition Award" for outstanding services by the Governor of Himachal Pradesh at I.H., Shimla.

Dr. RUPAK K. DAS

Dr. Rupak K. Das is Senior Consultant, General Surgery.

He graduated from the prestigious Armed Forces Medical College(1988) and then went on to train in various aspects of surgery in the United Kingdom (1992 -1997). He obtained the internationally acclaimed Fellowships of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Glasgow in 1995.

After coming back to India in 1997, Dr. Das worked at St Stephen's Hospital in Delhi for three years, before shifting to Panchkula. He is now a well-known and respected doctor in Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali.

He is a two times Dr. B C Roy National award winner and Ex. President of Association of Surgeons of India as well as Indian Association of Surgical Gastroenterology. Dr. Bose has been an eminent professor and teacher in the field of surgery at PGI and AIIMs.

INTERNAL MEDICINE

Dr. VIKAS BHUTANI  

Dr. Vikas Bhutani is Consultant, Internal Medicine.

He did his MBBS (1993) and MD in Medicine (1997) from Pt. BDS Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Rohtak. After that, he gained rich experience in the speciality while working at Govt. Medical College, Chandigarh and Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh.

Dr. Bhutani is the consultant -in - charge of the Fortis Healthcare preventive Health Check Centre and looking after executive, comprehensive and whole body health check ups, and corporate - pre-employment and annual health checks. Dr. Bela Sharma is Consultant, Internal Medicine .

She did her MBBS and MD from JNMC, Aligarh (1991), after which she served in the Indian Air Force for over 5 years as a graded specialist in medicine. Retiring as a Squadron Leader, Dr. Sharma then went on to work in Command Hospital , Chandimandir as Physician Nephrologist, and also as Consultant Nephrologist at S.U.T. Dr. Pawan Kumar Prasher is Consultant, Nephrology.

After serving the Armed Forces as a Consultant in Nephrology for 13 years, Dr. Prashar joined Fortis Hospital, Mohali in year 2000.

Prof. V.K. Jain is Director, Neurosurgery

Among the few pioneers of modern Neurosurgery in India, Dr. Jain completed his MBBS from King George Medical College , Lucknow (1974) and his MCh in Neurosurgery from the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore (1981).

During his long and distinguished career, Dr. Jain has held numerous coveted positions. He was Associate Professor at the Department of Neurosurgery in NIMHANS, Bangalore (1981-1987), and worked as Professor and Head of the Department of Neurosurgery at Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow prior to joining Fortis Hospital, Mohali.

He obtained the prestigious Micro Neurosurgery fellowship at Fujita Health University, Japan and has trained in diverse aspects of neurosciences from premier institutes at USA, Germany, Japan and Sweden .

He has been Special Associate Professor at Fujita Health University, Japan (1985 -1986), and visiting professor at Fujita Gakuen Health University, Japan (1999) and University Hospital of Geneva, Switzerland (2001).

His key areas of interest are micro neurosurgery (especially cerebro-vascular aneurysmal surgery and vestibular schwannoma CP angle surgery) and cranio vertebral anomalies. He has been internationally credited for the description of a new surgical technique known as the "Jain's Technique" in cranio vertebral anomaly surgery which has been widely published in national and international journals. He has set protocols for early surgery of ruptured aneurysms that have been accepted internationally and over the years have achieved results that excel.

Dr. Jain has guided many generations of neurosurgeons and has been examiner for Post Doctoral courses at all the major universities of the country. He has been invited to many micro neurosurgery workshops to demonstrate micro neurosurgical operations in the country. He was also invited to Children's Hospital, St. Petersburg to demonstrate transoral surgery in a case of cranio vertebral junction anomaly in July 2001

He has held key posts in several scientific societies. He has been President of the UP Neuroscience Association, President of Neurotrauma Society of India, Vice President in Asian Congress of Neurological Surgery (ACNS) and an Executive Committee Member in the Indian Society of Cerebrovascular Surgery.

He has enumerable international and national scientific publications. He is a member of the editorial board of "Spine", international journal for the study of the spine, "Neurology India ", the official journal of the Neurological Society of India and Journal of Post Graduate Medicine. He has also published a text book "Craniovertebral Junction Anomalies - The Indian experience" (1997), in addition to contributing many chapters in leading national and international text books.

Dr.JASWANT RAI

Dr. Jaswant Rai is Director, Orthopaedics..

He completed his MBBS (1969) from Government Medical College, Amritsar and MS in Orthopaedics (1973) from Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh.

He joined Fortis Healthcare after 16 distinguished years as Professor and Head of Unit II, Department of Orthopedics, PGIMER, Chandigarh .

Dr. Rai has been a pioneer in joint replacement surgery in the region since 1981. During his illustrious career, he has participated and contributed at various national and international joint replacement conferences and workshops.

Dr. Manuj Wadhwa is Senior Consultant, Orthopaedics.

He did his graduation from University College of Medical Sciences, Delhi and post graduation in Orthopaedics from Govt. Medical College, Amritsar, followed by MCh. In Orthopaedics from University of Dundee , U.K. Dr. Wadhwa has undergone super speciality training in joint replacement at Dundee University U.K., AIIMS, Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai and several other leading hospitals in India and abroad.

The first MCh (Ortho) to start practice in the region, Dr. Wadhwa is responsible for pioneering the concept of mobile bearing knees in North India. He has to his credit more than 450 joint replacement surgeries in Punjab over the last 5 years.

He is the recipient of several prestigious awards for his outstanding contribution in the field of orthopaedics and has been honoured with "Man of the Year 2003" award by American Biographical Institute, USA, "Rashtriya Rattan Award" (2003) and the premier "Rajiv Gandhi Shiromani Award" (2004). His name also finds mention in "Contemporary World Who's Who 2002-2003" list.

Dr. Wadhwa has obtained the much acclaimed Ranawat Joint Reconstruction Fellowship from Lenox Hill Hospital, New York U.S.A, along with joint replacement fellowships at Australia, Singapore, Paris, Czeck Republic and S. Korea, and is trained for navigation (computer based joint replacements ) from Germany and Australia.

Dr. RAJEEV BEDI

Dr. Rajeev Bedi, DM is Senior Consultant, Medical Oncology.

Having done his DM from AIIMS, Dr. Bedi has worked with the institute for over 8 years, before joining Fortis Healthcare.

He has undergone advance training in hematology at Royal Marsden Hospital, London and has received a fellowship from the European society of Medical Oncology.

Dr. Bedi is the recipient of the prestigious Gold Mittal & Geeta Mittal award for best cancer researcher of the year 2002 by the President of India, Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam. His key areas of interest include breast cancer, lung cancer, gynecological cancer, GI cancer, leukemia and bone marrow transplant.

Dr. Bedi has been actively involved in research, presentations and has published and read papers at various national and international conferences.

 


Dr. K.S. BEHGAL

Dr. K.S. Behgal is Consultant, Medical Oncology.

He completed his MBBS from Patiala Medical College in 1993, MD in radiation oncology from AIIMS in 1997, and his Diplomat of National Board in clinical oncology in 1998.

Prior to joining Fortis Healthcare, Dr. Behgal's work experience includes time in New Delhi, as well as international exposure in London and Switzerland.

Regionally, Dr. Behgal has built his name as an expert in clinical and palliative oncology. His fields of interest include breast cancer, gastrointestinal tumors, gynecological cancers and pediatric oncology.

Dr. Behgal has published articles in a number of national and international publications, four of which have been from Fortis Hospital as a participant in the UK based ABC trial for breast cancer; the breast cancer research group St Galen's, Switzerland. He was the recipient of the "Best research paper Award" at the 2005 SAARC ONCO conference.

Besides being an active medical oncologist, Dr. Behgal's interests are focused on quality of life issues and the practice of pain management in comprehensive oncology care.

 


OPHTHALMOLOGY

Dr. ARVIND SHARMA

Dr. Arvind Sharma is Consultant, Ophthalmology.

He did his graduation from B. J. Medical College, Ahmedabad (1994) followed by Masters in Ophthalmology (1996). Dr. Sharma has worked with several reputed eye institutes across the country, and was the Chief Eye Surgeon at a leading eye institute in Gujrat, before joining Fortis Hospital, Mohali in 2002.

He has nearly 1800 surgeries and more than 1000 laser procedures to his credit and specializes in laser treatments for eye diseases with particular interest in "laser treatment for diabetic eye disease".

Dr. Sharma is actively involved in plastic repairs and has formed an "Oculoplastic Team" for plastic, reconstructive & cosmetic surgery of eyeball and related structures. He has played a key role in pioneering safe and modified blue menthol's technique called "Cataract Surgery With Pseudo-Accomodative Effect." and has conducted more than 1000 surgeries using this procedure.

Having a distinguished academic record, including a university gold medal in Post Graduation, Dr. Chugh has trained and worked at reputed eye institutes at Ahmedabad, Bombay, Chennai, Delhi and Madurai.

Dr. Chugh has a comprehensive experience at handling and treating all kinds of eye diseases and eye operations with special expertise in stitch-less (phacoemulsification) cataract micro-surgery and its advanced versions like phaconit and cold phaco, glaucoma, vitreo-retina, keratoplasty, squint, contact lenses, neuro-ophthalmology, paediatric eye diseases, systemic ophthalmology and above all lasers - for diabetic retinopathy and removal of glasses (lasik laser, Epi-lasik and its latest variants).

Dr. Simmi Waraich

Dr. Simmi Waraich is consultant, Psychiatry

Dr Waraich did her MBBS from Government Medical College and Hospital, Patiala and MD in Psychiatry from Patiala as well. Later she moved to Chandigarh to do her Senior Residency in Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh.

Before joining Fortis Hospital, Mohali, Dr. Waraich was associated the Acute Mental Health team at Toowoomba Base Hospital, Australia, for over a year. She has also worked as a senior resident in Drug Deaddiction Unit of Department of Psychiatry, PGI, Chandigarh and was associated with District Mental Health Programme under the Department of Psychiatry, GMCH-32.

Her particular interest is in childhood behaviour problems and in existential psychotherapy and cognitive behaviour therapy. In Deaddiction, her focus is on motivation enhancement therapy. She also works with the elderly who have dementia and runs a domiciliary care group for them.

Dr. Waraich has been actively involved in publication of articles in newspapers to raise awareness of psychiatric disorders such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia etc. She regularly delivers lectures in behavioural problems in children, drug abuse in adolescents, stress management in the corporate sector, positive thinking and more.

 


 Dr. HARDEEP SINGH 

Dr. Hardeep Singh is Consultant, Psychiatry.

He is a postgraduate in psychiatry from PGIMER, Chandigarh and is an acknowledged expert in general and addiction psychiatry. Dr. Ashwin Garg 

Ashwin GargDr. Ashwin Garg is Assistant Consultant- Vascular and Neuro Interventional Radiologist.


Dr Garg completed his MBBS from Seth G S Medical College and K.E.M hospital, Mumbai (1996) followed by Diploma in Medical Radio diagnosis from Grant Medical College and Sir J J Group of Hospitals, Mumbai (2000). He acquired a Diplomate in National Board (DNB) in 2002. As a senior resident and then as a fellow in interventional radiology, he gained immensely from the knowledge and experience of leading Interventional Radiologists in Mumbai. Following this he worked as a lecturer in interventional Radiology in K.E.M Hospital (2003). Later as a lecturer for 4 and half years in Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College and Hospital, Mumbai, he has had an extremely successful tenure at these twin institutions, taking the hospital's interventional radiology programme to great heights while he was there.

Dr Garg has vast experience of performing both elective and emergency endovascular and non vascular procedures, with rich expertise in percutaneous management of peripheral and visceral artery aneurysms, gastrointestinal bleeding, gynecological and obstetric vascular emergencies, and various types of hepatobiliary and venous diseases. He is a member of ISVIR (Indian society of vascular and interventional radiology) and is peer reviewer of international medical journals.
