1. Dialysis Technician Training Programme
The Fortis Hospital, Noida is working to serve women in the weaker sections of the community. To this end we have started a Dialysis Technician Training programme. It is our first venture towards community development. Dr. Manoj Singhal, Senior consultant, Nephrology is conducting the programme.
The main aim of this programme is to provide these women with a profession by which they can become self-dependent.
The first batch of this programme started in November 2004. Five girls were selected. The candidates were selected from orphanages, women's welfare organisations and social organisations on the outskirts of Noida.
Students are provided with a stipend of Rs.1,000/- towards their food and lodging.
Course Profile
The course gives a "Hands on Vocational Training" on dialysis technique.
Basic Qualification: 10 +2 with Science background
Duration: 2 years
Fees: None
Assessment: Day to day assessment of the candidates activities and a final Exam at the end of 2 years.
Next session - starts on January 2006.
2. School Adoption (Medical Needs) Programme
Many students get injured during the school hours. Keeping this in mind Fortis Hospital, Noida has adopted a few schools to serve the medical needs of the students and staff during school hours. The hospital will treat the medical needs, which occur during the school hours. The hospital's intention is to give a feeling of security to the parents of the students.
Under this programme the Hospital provides free OPD/Emergency consultations by doctors. The school or the patient has to bear the charges for the consumables and medicines used in the treatment.
Schools covered under the programme
Two schools situated in close proximity to the hospital are selected for this programme. The schools are:
- Mother Theresa School, Noida.
- Mother Theresa Higher Secondary School, Noida.
Both the Mother Theresa schools were selected as they are under a trust, which serves poor students with low cost education. The hospital also wishes to have goodwill with other reputed social organizations.
3. Tele-medicine
Setting up a Tele-medicine department has taken Fortis Hospital, Noida a step further in its social charter. Even though, India produces lakhs of doctors, the scope for postgraduate courses are limited and the specialists are concentrated in the cities and corporate hospitals.
Considering these facts, Fortis Healthcare, provides super speciality services to places where specialist doctors are not available. So Fortis Healthcare has selected small hospitals, nursing homes, clinics and diagnostic centres in small towns to set up Tele-medicine or Tele ECG centres. They would be linked to Fortis Healthcare specialist centres through ISDN or normal telephone lines. Through this the residents of these small towns can access world-class diagnostic facilities and consultations from highly acclaimed specialist doctors at a low cost.
Fortis Healthcare provides free consultations by its doctors and technical assistance to set up Tele-medicine centres.

4. Distribution of Safety Booklets
To prevent accidents by the use of colours and crackers during festivals like Holi and Diwali (and also the treatment of burns), Fortis Hospital, Noida publishes safety booklets. These are distributed in the adjacent areas of Noida along with the daily newspapers.

6. Fortis Healthcare emergency Domiciliary Services (FEDS)
It was launched on 3rd April 2005. There were regular calls to the Emergency number from residents of Noida, asking for home visits by a doctor. This prompted us to start the Fortis Healthcare emergency Domiciliary Service (FEDS) for a nominal sum of Rs.150/- per visit + consumables. This has resulted in increased footfalls and in patient services.
The service covers the following:
Primary consultation, Injections IV/ IM, Starting/Changing IV Lines, Starting/Changing Urinary Catheters, Bed Sore Dressing, Insulin Therapy and Glucose Measurement, Post operation dressing change and BP Monitoring.
7. Free Health Camps
Fortis Hospital, Noida organises free medical camps in various locations using a wide range of specialist doctors. The camps are organised in places like schools, stadiums, and small hospitals so that any one can attend the camp. This provides an opportunity for poor people to get super speciality medical consultations free of cost.
Fortis Healthcare also organises free medical camps in collaboration with NGOs/Trusts operating in the area. Through this people of low economic status get an opportunity to have super speciality consultations. They are also provided with discounts for all investigations done at the hospital.
8. Health Talks
The Fortis Hospital also organises health talks or public lectures to create health awareness among the citizens. These lectures are organised in schools, public places and through organisations like the Rotary Club. It also organises corporate lectures for those working in companies about possible Occupational Hazards.
9. Fortis Healthcare observership Programme
This programme is exclusively for school children. They are taught about immediate life support in an emergency situation and the overall functioning of a hospital. The students are provided with certificates at the end of the programme.
10. Social Banners
The hospital displays banners, in public areas, with social messages to create awareness among people. The banners carry messages related to smoking, safe driving and a host of other subjects.
11. Guest Support Cell
Through this programme Fortis Healthcare raises funds for poor patients who cannot pay for their treatment. Fortis Healthcare has arrangements with the Prime Minister's office, the President's office. In the states of Karnataka, Maharashtra and West Bengal the hospital arranges the funds from the Prime Minister and President's relief funds or from those of the state government. Fortis Healthcare also collects funds from individual donors to aid the treatment of poor patients. The hospital discounts the bill for the stay and only collects money for the consumables and medicines. The excess money collected is used for other poor patients. This service has been provided to three patients in the past few months.
12. Mobile Camps
The Fortis Hospital arranges for mobile medical camps to reach villages and slums and even economically developed regions. These vehicles (with one or two doctors) regularly travel to these places and screen people for diseases.
