Fortis Infection Control Certificate Course

Fortis Healthcare Ltd successfully launched a five-weeks certificate course on Infection
Control for nurses at Fortis Shalimar Bagh on 15th Nov’2010. With the
commencement of FICCC, Fortis Healthcare Limited has become the second
Organization in India, delivering a structured weeks long training on Infection Control
Practices.

The initiation of this programme has provided an opportunity for the Healthcare
community to develop a new vision for the future of Infection Control Area. This course is
specifically designed for Nurses, working or intending to work in the Infection
Control arena. 25 nursing professionals from across the country (Fortis healthcare) joined the training programme.


 

 

 

 

 

 

The Course is a result of 6 months of extensive brainstorming on the subject and includes 200 hours of lectures, including 40 hours of Project Work. It also includes practical attachment at various specialties & super-specialties, including Burn & Plastic surgery attachment at Safdarjung hospital (Safdarjung is a 1531 bedded hospital with renowned Burn & Plastic unit).

25 candidates are enrolled from PAN Fortis namely, Escorts, Faridabad, Noida, Vasant kunj, Jessaram, Mohali, Amritsar, La Femme, Shalimar Bagh, Jaipur, Vashi, Raheja, Malar and Raipur.  

This Extensive Course would provide an in-depth knowledge & exclusive hands-on experience on Recent and Accepted Infection Control Practices and Protocols. The Exclusively designed curriculum emphasizes, on the fundamental aspects of Infection Control, Infection Control Protocols and Prevention Strategies, Transmission and Control of Nosocomial Infections, Disinfection and Sterilization, Employee Health, Isolation Systems, Quality Improvement and Audits, Infection Control Essentials for Accreditation and Patient Safety etc.

The inauguration has attended by eminent speakers from the healthcare fraternity including Dr. Narottam Puri, Advisor-Medical, Fortis Healthcare Ltd; Mr Jasbir Grewal, Regional Director, Fortis Healthcare Ltd; Dr P N Kakar, Medical Director & Head Dept. of  Anaesthesia & Pain Management; Mr Sunil kapoor, Facility Director, Fortis Shalimar Bagh Hospital; Ms Thankam Gomez, Chief, Nursing, Fortis Healthcare Ltd, Ms Sarita Ahluwalia, Chief of Nursing, Fortis Shalimar Bagh.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Narottam Puri, Advisor-Medical, Fortis Healthcare Ltd, who has laid the Foundation of this course, laid emphasis on the Significance of Infection Control Practices in hospital setting and the dire need of the Structured Training programme for infection control team members. He gave an insight on the Hospital Acquired Infections and its serious impact on the hospitals, in terms of Mortality and cost; and informed about its Prevention and Control.

Dr P N Kakar, Medical Director & Head Dept. of Anaesthesia & Pain Management and the Course Chairman briefed all about the five weeks schedule programme and the major subjects covered. He said that, Poor infection control practices and the untrained infection prevention staff creates unhealthy imbalance between the excellent care provided and the outcome of the treatment. And here originates the need of in-depth training, which is based on the optimum standards, professional accountability and encourages healthcare organization to pursue continual excellence.
