- Coronary Angiography: This type of angiography focuses on visualizing the coronary arteries that supply blood to the heart muscle. It is commonly used to diagnose coronary artery disease, blockages, and evaluate the need for interventions like angioplasty or bypass surgery.
-
2. Angioplasty: Angioplasty is a medical procedure used to open narrowed or blocked blood vessels. It is most commonly performed on coronary arteries of the heart but can also be done in other arteries such as those in the legs (peripheral angioplasty) or neck (carotid angioplasty)
-
3. TAVI: TAVI stands for Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation, also known as TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement). It is a minimally invasive procedure used to replace a diseased aortic valve in patients who are at high risk for traditional open-heart surgery or who may benefit from a less invasive approach.
-
4. Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery: Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery (CABG), commonly referred to as bypass surgery, is a surgical procedure used to treat coronary artery disease (CAD), a condition where the arteries that supply blood to the heart muscle become narrowed or blocked due to a buildup of plaque.
-
5. LVAD: LVAD stands for Left Ventricular Assist Device. It is a mechanical pump that is surgically implanted to assist a weakened heart in pumping blood throughout the body. LVADs are typically used in patients with severe heart failure when other treatments have not been effective.
-
6. Heart Transplant: Heart transplant is a surgical procedure performed to replace a diseased or failing heart with a healthy heart from a deceased donor. It is typically considered for patients with end-stage heart failure who have not responded to other medical treatments and interventions

5. What is Coronary Artery Disease (CAD)?Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) or Ischemic Heart Disease is a condition affecting the arteries that run on the surfaces of the heart and supply blood to the heart muscles. The most common cause of CAD is atherosclerosis, where fatty deposits including cholesterol and other fats, calcium, and certain other elements carried in the blood build up as plaque on the inside of artery walls. This can cause either chest pain (Angina pectoris), or a heart attack.
-
6. What is Angioplasty or PTCA?Angioplasty is a non-surgical procedure designed to dilate (widen or expand) narrowed coronary arteries. First, a doctor inserts a thin plastic tube (a catheter) into an artery in your arm or leg. He or she then guides this catheter to the aorta (the large artery that conducts blood from the heart to the rest of the body). From there it passes to the coronary arteries. As the doctor guides the catheter to the coronary arteries, a special x-ray camera called fluoroscope monitors the procedure. Once the catheter engages the coronary artery, a thin wire (PTCA wire) is passed into the coronary artery across the narrowed segment.
-
7. How is PTCA different from Bypass surgery? In bypass surgery, blood vessels from the chest or leg grafted to the coronary artery beyond its most diseased segment. In PTCA, however the obstructed part of the coronary artery is widened rather bypassed.
-
8. What is TAVR?TAVR is a method to replace the aortic valve in the heart using a small catheter or tube about the diameter of a pencil. This eradicates the requirement for traditional open heart surgery. The catheter is commonly inserted through an artery in the groin. In most cases, this process usually takes about two hours. The new valve, which is made of natural material, is stitched inside a metal stent that is placed inside the patient's own aortic valve through the catheter. The procedure is done while the heart is still beating, eliminating the need for a heart lung bypass machine.
