About Dr. Bakul Dua

Dr Bakul Dua is a licensed Clinical Psychologist and Psychotherapist. She has over ten years of experience in clinical research and advocacy settings across Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. She completed her training at NIMHANS, where she was awarded the M.V Govindaswamy Gold Medal, and the Tata Institute of Social Sciences where she was awarded the Institute Gold Medal. Though her initial training was in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, her therapeutic approach integrates common threads across therapeutic schools especially humanistic, attachment, family systems and psychodynamic thought. Her practice is LGBTQ+ affirmative and informed by a strong social justice framework. While trained to treat mental illnesses as biologically based, she integrates evidence-based science with an understanding that dominant discourses and structural oppression intersect with social identities to play a major role in psychological distress. Besides her practice at Fortis La Femme, she is currently undergoing training in mentalization based therapy (MBT) and runs an MBT group as a co-therapist under supervision. She is also involved in research projects on psychotherapy practice and training in the Indian context.
