About Dr. Prathima Reddy

Dr. Prathima Reddy was trained in the UK and has obtained the membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG), London. She was then elevated to the status of Fellow of the Royal College, a title conferred by the college for her contribution to the advancement of the science and practices of obstetrics and Gynaecology. She has worked in some of the big hospitals (with annual delivery rate of 10 to 12 thousand per year) in UK for 10 years before coming back to India in the year 2000. While in Bangalore, she continued to be actively involved in women care, in some of the busiest units in the city. She was the first consultant to introduce the concept of evidence-based, protocol-led management of patients in match with international standards. This has contributed immensely in reduction of caesarean section rates and also helped in setting standards and improving patient care. All her patients are treated according to the present evidence-based guidelines. She has authored a Labor Ward Manual which aids doctors and nurses to deliver uniform care to all their patients. This has also helped to enhance the knowledge of her colleagues and promoted evidence-based care. Strict adherence to these guidelines has also led to the reduction in hysterectomy rates and promoted 'uterus saving' medical management of menstrual problems. She specializes in high-risk obstetrics and is the lead for tertiary referrals of complicated pregnancy related and gynaecological cases. Dr. Reddy has special training and experience in complicated vaginal surgeries. She also performs laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgeries, colposcopy and colposcopic-directed treatment for abnormalities of the uterine cervix. Despite her extremely busy professional schedule, she continues to devote her time teaching junior doctors and nurses and runs classes on dealing with medical emergencies. She also trains post-graduate students for the MRCOG and DNB exams. She has a special interest in organizing medical seminars and lectures as a part of her commitment to the continuation of medical education. Being a very popular speaker, she regularly delivers lectures and participates in workshops locally and nationally. She is regularly invited to deliver lectures at various women's organizations, including the Rotary Club. She also organizes health camps for women and children from less fortunate backgrounds. Apart from medicine, she is a keen sportswoman and was a national and international basketball player. She has won several prizes at inter-school and inter-college levels for debates, dramas and essay writing. In her spare time, she reads, travels, and attends dramas and musical concerts.
