Dr. Sugi Subramaniam is the first transplant surgeon from his hometown Chengalpattu. His areas of interest include Deceased & Living Donor Liver Transplant, Paediatric Liver Transplant, Split Liver Transplant and Minimal Invasive Liver Donor & HPB Surgeries. He has performed over 200 Liver Transplant surgery and treated over 3000 patients for Surgical GI & HPB Surgeries. ‘I always consider affordability of a patient and recommend surgery as an option only when it’s an absolute necessity’, Dr. Sugi adds. His aim is to make transplants affordable to middle class people and is conscious about treatment plan and diagnostics he recommends to his patients. His long term goal is to take transplants to his hometown in Chengalpattu. His oldest patient was a 91 year old male, who presented with sigmoid volvulus, a condition where the sigmoid colon gets twisted and the patient presents as a surgical emergency. Although typically treated with surgery, the patient was successfully treated non operatively and discharged. Dr. Sugi was also part of the team that performed a successful Liver Transplant on a 4 week old baby. He has published over 20 medical papers in International and National Journals. Dr. Sugi was an avid dancer in his student days. To stay active he plays shuttle, cooks and has won 3 marathon medals. He converses fluently in English and Tamil.
