Medical Oncology, Hematology And BMT

Medical oncology is a branch of cancer care which uses chemotherapy, immunotherapy, hormonal therapy and targeted therapy to treat cancer in an efficient manner.

Hematology on the other hand is the study, detection and treatment of blood, blood-forming organs and blood diseases. This generally includes the treatment of blood disorders and malignancies, including types of hemophilia, leukemia and lymphoma and sickle-cell anemia.

A bone marrow transplant is carried out to replace bone marrow that has been impaired by disease, or infection. This procedure usually involves transplanting blood stem cells, which move to the bone marrow where they make new blood cells and boost the growth of new marrow. The replaced marrow can be taken from another fit person or can be of the patient's own restored marrow (before the treatment).

At Fortis, our experts work together to provide appropriate diagnosis and management of benign and malignant hematological disorders, laboratory hematological services and blood transfusion services.
