Fortis Hospital, Mulund discharged Mumbai’s 8th and 9th heart transplant patients after recuperating from successful heart transplant surgeries within a span of 24 hours. The surgeries took place on 30th & 31st January, 2016. The two patients – a 28-year old man and a 7-year old girl - were suffering from Dilated Cardiomyopathy. The transplants are testimonies of the strengthened heart transplant channel developed within and beyond the state.
The 8th heart transplant at Mumbai’s Fortis Hospital, Mulund, was conducted on a 28-year old patient, suffering from Dilated Cardiomyopathy & waitlisted for over six months. The transplant surgery was conducted on 30th January at Fortis Hospital, Mulund, following the donation consent given by the kin of a 39 yr old male, who was declared brain dead from Brain Stem Bleed. The donor heart was transported from Seth Nandlal Dhoot Hospital, Aurangabad to Fortis Hospital, Mulund, in 1 hour and 19 minutes, covering 276.2kms. The surgery was conducted by Dr Anvay Mulay, Head of Cardiac Transplant Team, along with Dr Sanjeev Jadhav, CVTS Surgeon, Fortis Hospital, Mulund.
After his stay of 15 days at Fortis Hospital, Mulund, the young patient is looking forward to go back to his life with a lot of optimism. He said, “I remain grateful & indebted to the donor & his family for this new lease of life. When doctors at Fortis Hospital, Mulund told me about successful heart transplants conducted at the hospital, it was a ray of hope for me and my family. The doctors & nursing staff treated me successfully and I leave for home blessed with a new heart.”
