- Procedures
-

Lumpectomy (breast-conserving surgery) – also known as partial mastectomy, this procedure removes just the cancer in the breast and some healthy surrounding tissue.
-

Mastectomy – this procedure involves removing the entire breast.
-

Implant-based reconstruction – often done after a mastectomy to restore breast shape and size, it is a complex surgery performed using saline or silicone gel implants.
-

Autologous (free flap) breast reconstruction, such as DIEP flap and TUG flap procedures:
- DIEP (deep inferior epigastric perforator) flap – considered the gold standard treatment for breast reconstruction, this procedure is performed using skin, fat, and blood vessels from the lower belly (leaving the underlying muscle intact) to rebuild the breast, after a mastectomy or lumpectomy.
- TUG (transverse upper gracilis) flap – it is done using skin, fat, blood vessels, and a small part of the gracilis muscle from the upper thigh to reconstruct the breast.
