The hospital has a fully computerized, automated, NABL accredited Large Category laboratory. The Lab operations is managed by Agilus Diagnostics Ltd., formerly SRL Diagnostics, which is one of India's largest diagnostics service provider with the vision to be the most trusted and dynamic leader in the diagnostic industry.

The Lab is NABL accredited since 2013 and has been mentioned as the “strength of the hospital” during several of the NABH audits. The Lab offers a complete range of clinical laboratory tests and services for the hospital, out patients, corporate health check facilities at reasonable cost. The Laboratory runs 24x7 with round the clock sample collection facility. The laboratory has been designed in such a way that every sample should pass through stringent quality checks and processes. The laboratory has bidirectionally interfaced equipment providing connectivity with the hospital information management system and thus ensuring accurate and quick results. Through a robust software system (CLIMS) patients can download their reports as soon as the results are reviewed and physicians get intimated about any critical results of their patients.

The laboratory houses various technical sections such as Biochemistry, Microbiology & Infectious Disease Serology, Immunology, Molecular Testing, Clinical Pathology & Hematology, Histopathology & Cytopathology with cutting-edge technology and state-of-the-art equipment to deliver exceptional value to our clients. We perform close to 70,000 routine and special tests catering to around 18,000 patients every month. The laboratory has a team of highly skilled and qualified professionals in every section to provide accurate and timely results, enabling healthcare providers to make informed decisions and improve patient outcomes. The laboratory has an extensive NABL accredited test menu (~300 tests) that provides one stop diagnostic solutions for routine, semi-specialty and super-specialty domains like oncology, neurology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, nephrology etc. The Lab offers range of tailored health packages designed to meet individual needs, from managing diabetes, screening of infectious diseases, diagnosis of rheumatological conditions and promoting cardiac wellness to comprehensive check-ups catering to both male and female health concerns. 

In order to provide best quality reports, stringent quality control measures are implemented in all the sections of the laboratory, which includes extensive daily internal quality control measures and participation in external quality assurance programs from leading CAP/NABL accredited organizations of the country as per recommendations laid down by NABL 112 and ISO 15189:2022.

Biochemistry

Biochemistry section is equipped with fully automated and integrated state-of-the-art analyzers of Roche (German make), connected through bi-directional interface, offering 24×7 service for comprehensive range of routine chemistry as well as special parameters like hormones, vitamins, tumour markers etc. within the TAT of only 2 hrs. All tests are scrutinized by the Biochemist after numerous quality checks complying with the international standards, ISO 15189, to generate highly precise and accurate patient reports. 

Microbiology

Microbiology section is equipped with automated systems involving blood culture, bacterial identification and sensitivity, fungal culture, biosafety and laminar airflow cabinets. There are facilities for diagnosis of all microbes including the uncommon pathogens ensuring a fast turn-around-time. The Microbiologist plays a vital role in antimicrobial selection for patients and in driving an effective antimicrobial stewardship in the hospital.

Infectious Disease Serology & Immunology section is equipped with ELISA reader for routine Dengue parameters Scrub Typhus IgM, Brucella Serology and Galactomannan Antigen Test.

This highly advanced department is equipped with rapid molecular detection facilities like CBNAAT (GeneXpert), which detects many deadly infections like COVID 19, Tuberculosis including MDR and XDR TB, HBV DNA (quantitative), HCV RNA (quantitative), Clostridium difficile toxin within an hour or two. The unit is equipped with syndrome-based Multiplex Filmarray PCR system (Biofire) that detects pathogens causing upper respiratory infections, pneumonia, meningitis and gastro-enteritis, within a matter of a few hours.

Haematology & Clinical Pathology

NABL Accredited Department of Hematopathology is equipped with 5-part Sysmex cell counters for routine CBCs. Expert evaluation of peripheral smear morphology, manual reticulocyte counts are done along with body fluid analysis. Coagulation testing including mixing studies are done by automated machine Stago Satellite Max. Blood grouping by tube and gel card method, haemoglobin variant analysis by Bio-Rad D10, semen analysis and clinical pathology encompassing routine urine and stool examinations are performed daily. Detection of occult blood in stool along with OPC are included in the test menu.

Bone marrow aspiration and trephine biopsy with special stains are performed and reported by experienced pathologists.

Histopathology & Cytopathology

Department of Histopathology-Cytology is managed by a team of highly qualified and dedicated Histopathologists with an optimum mix of training, experience and knowledge. Accurate and timely reporting is done as per latest National and International formats.

Essentially dealing with biopsies of all kinds, tissue samples come to the department from every clinical specialty and referred from the outside hospitals. Frozen section reports are informed in optimum time with processing done on latest Leica cryostat equipped with UV irradiation. Processed tissue samples include endoscopic biopsies, stereotactic biopsies, trucut core biopsies and specimens obtained after simple and radical surgeries. Neoplastic cases are further evaluated using Immunohistochemistry markers for proper classification. Special stains for mucin, collagen, amyloid, iron and fungus are performed.

Department has a range of latest and updated equipments used in various stages of tissue processing. Equipments are handled by experienced technologists with exceptional skill sets required for automated and manual steps, who work in shifts covering 12 hrs everyday including Sundays and holidays.

FNAC is performed by skilled pathologists. Cytology section handles cervical cytology and body fluid cytology using cytocentrifuge. ROSE (rapid on-site evaluation) of pulmonology samples is done daily. Cell block preparation is done routinely. 

Referral System

While about 98-99% of the requested tests are performed in-house, referral Laboratories at Agarpara (0.5-0.7% tests), Goregaon and Gurgaon (0.5-0.7%tests) support us by catering to a wide variety of tests and molecular diagnostics which are not available in Fortis Hospital Anandapur at present. 

Home Blood Collection 

The lab also provides complementary home blood collection services throughout Kolkata (on prior booking basis) thus providing hassle free, high quality diagnostic services at the patients’ doorstep enhancing patient service experience. Most of the reports are available (through Whatsapp and Email) by end of the same day.
