Medical Oncology: The primary objective of the Department of Medical Oncology is to offer comprehensive care in diagnosing and treating patients (both adults and children) with solid tumours and haematological malignancies. We are committed to offering compassionate care along with personalized treatment for all kinds of cancers and our multi-disciplinary Tumour Board recommends an individualized treatment plan for every patient based on every patient’s diagnosis & staging while utilizing the latest scientific and technological advancements. The renowned team of oncologists at our department has the latest knowledge, expertise and experience in treating a wide range of type or stage of cancer. In order to provide state-of-the-art, personalized patient care, we work closely with a talented and dedicated team of professionals comprising of physicians from other sub-specialty areas, surgeons, radiologists, behavioural specialists, nutritionists, palliative care professional and physiotherapists. Services Offered: Systemic and Regional Chemotherapy, Targeted Therapy, Hormonal Therapy, Immunotherapy, Multi-disciplinary Tumor Board Approach & Palliative Care & Pain Management.
Radiation Oncology: The Department offers radiation therapy using fewer high-dose treatments as compared to traditional therapy, which helps preserve healthy tissue. If delivered in a single sitting, it is called Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS), as usually done in cases of Brain lesions. When SRS is used to treat body tumours, it's called Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT). At Fortis Cancer Institute (FCI) we have the region’s most advanced (LINAC) Linear Accelerator with VMAT. Coupled with IGRT, SRS, SRT & ART, the treatment ensures that only cancer cells are destroyed, and the surrounding healthy tissue are spared. This ensures minimal burns, side effects & shorter treatment span. And treatment is delivered with increased accuracy. In addition, FCI has the conventional 3D and IMRT modalities, along with Siemens Biograph Truepoint with HD PET-CT. Combining benefits of both PET and CT, it has the ability to detect lesions as small as 1 mm, with minimal radiopharmaceutical dose. Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT): IGRT is the use of imaging during radiation therapy to improve the precision and accuracy of treatment delivery. IGRT is used to treat tumors in areas of the body that have involuntary movement, such as the lungs. Volumetric Modulated Arc Radiotherapy (VMAT): VMAT is a new type of IMRT technique. The radiotherapy machine rotates around the patient during treatment. The machine continuously reshapes and changes the intensity of the radiation beam as it moves around the body. It is used to treat various tumours like Prostate, Brain tumours and Gynaecological malignancies. Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT): IMRT is an advanced type of radiation therapy used to treat cancer and noncancerous tumors. IMRT uses advanced technology to manipulate photon beams of radiation to conform to the shape of a tumor and spare the normal tissue. Apart from these We also offer Dendritic Cell Therapy (DCT), wherein the dendritic cells help the immune system recognize and attack abnormal cells, including cancer cells.
Surgical Oncology: Surgical Oncology is the branch of medicine that focuses on the diagnosis and management of cancerous tumours using various surgical procedures. Our FCI boasts of an integrated health system comprising of highly-skilled surgeons with the most advanced technology to perform such operative procedures. A wide-variety of surgical procedures such as Open, Laparoscopic and Robotic-assisted Surgery, are conducted at FCI to treat cancers affecting the prostate, breast, head & neck, ovary & uterus, thyroid, pancreas, lungs, stomach, intestine, etc.
Robotic Oncosurgery: Over the last few decades’ cancer surgery has evolved tremendously especially more towards the development of minimally invasive surgical techniques like Laparoscopic and Robotic onco surgeries. These newer techniques are not only safer and have minimal side effects but also play a huge role in organ preservation in cancer patients. In fact, robotic surgery is now considered as the God Standard for surgical treatment of prostate cancers and has vastly improved the outcomes. At FCI we have the world’s most advanced surgical robot – the Da Vinci Xi which is being used by our most experienced and skilled surgeons to perform cancer surgeries of prostate, kidney, breast, gynaecological and head & neck cancers. Benefits of robotic surgery for the patients include minimal scarring, lesser blood loss, shorter hospital stay and quicker recovery. It is also very beneficial for the surgeon in terms of better visibility, control over movements with increased flexibility and ability to navigate through deeper tissues with higher precision. Our team of experts in robotic surgery have collectively performed over 1200 robotic surgeries in a span of 3 years and have tremendously improved the clinical outcomes, especially for cancer patients.
Nuclear Medicine: Nuclear medicine is a special branch of radiology that uses radioactive materials to diagnose & treat cancer cells and shrink tumours. Nuclear medicine uses small amounts of radioactive materials caller radiotracers to detect an infection or a disease in the body. The radioactive material gets deposited in the tissue, the emitted radiation is detected through a radiation detector like Gamma Camera, which stores the digital signals produced in the form of imaging.

CONDITIONS & TREATMENTS
• Knee Replacement (Total & Partial)
• Hip Replacement
• Complex/complicated Trauma
• Arthroscopy
• Bone Cancer
• Small Joint Surgeries (Hand & Foot)
Knee Replacement (Total & Partial)
Under Total Knee Replacement Surgery, the parts of the bones that rub together are resurfaced with metal and plastic implants. Using special, precision instruments, the damaged surfaces of the bones are removed and replacement surfaces are fixed into place. The surface of the femur is replaced with a rounded metal component that comes very close to matching the curve of your natural bone. The surface of the tibia/leg bone is replaced with a smooth plastic component. This flat metal component holds a smooth plastic piece made of ultra-high-molecular weight polyethylene.
Hip Replacement
The aim of total hip replacement is to replace the head of the femur {ball} and reline the acetabulum {socket/cup} with man-made components. There are various types of hip replacements and your surgeon would have discussed with you the type of prosthesis you are likely to receive.
Although the metal-plastic combination is most commonly used, there are times when your surgeon will choose to use a different combination, such as highly crossed-linked plastic liner {a new form of plastic that is felt to be durable} with a metal or ceramic ball head; ceramic with ceramic.
Acetabular Fracture
An Acetabular fracture is a break in the socket portion of the “ball-and-socket” hip joint. These hip socket fractures are not common - they occur much less frequently than fractures of the upper femur or femoral head (the “ball’’ portion of the joint).
The majority of acetabular fractures are caused by some typr high-energy event, such as a car collision. Many times patients will have additional injuries that require immediate treatment.
In a smaller number of cases, a low-energy incident, such as a fall from standing, may cause an acetabular fracture in an older person who has weaker bones.
Treatment for acetabular fractures often involves surgery to restore the normal anatomy of the hip and stabilize the hip joint.
Arthroscopy
Arthroscopy is a surgical procedure that allows surgeons to visualize, diagnose and treat problems inside a joint. In an arthroscopic examination, an orthopedic surgeon makes a small incision in the patient’s skin and then inserts pencil sized instruments that contain a small lens and lighting system to magnify and illuminate the structures inside the joint. Light is transmitted through fiber optics to the end of the arthroscope that is inserted into the joint. By attaching the arthroscope to a miniature television camera, the surgeon is able to see the interiors of the joint through this very small incision rather than making a large incision. The television camera attached to the arthroscope displays the image of the joint on a television screen, allowing the surgeon to look around the knee. The surgeon can determine the amount or type of injury, and then repair or correct the problem, if necessary.
With development of better instrumentation and surgical techniques, many conditions today can be treated arthroscopically. For instance, most meniscal tears in the knee can be treated successfully with arthroscopic surgery.
Few problems associated with arthritis can also be treated. Several disorders are treated with a combination of arthroscopic and standard surgery.
• Rotator cuff procedure
• Repair or resection of torn cartilage from knee
• Repair or resection of torn cartilage from knee
• Reconstruction of anterior cruciate ligament in knee
• Removal of inflamed lining (synovium) in knee, shoulder, elbow wrist or ankle
• Removal of loose bone or cartilage in knee, shoulder, elbow or wrist
Bone Cancer
Bone Cancer is very rare in adults. It starts in the cells that make up the bone. Cancer starts when cells begin to grow out of control. Cells in nearly any part of the body can become cancer, and can spread to other parts of the body
