Dr. Gurneetsingh Sawhney

Dr Gurneet Singh Sawhney is Director, Stereotactic & Functional Neurosciences and Senior Consultant, Department of Neurosurgery & Spinal Surgery, Fortis Hospital, Mulund, Mumbai. He is an expert in advanced functional, stereotactic, brain and spine neurosurgery with special expertise in the surgical management of movement disorders and epilepsy. His major clinical interests include DBS in carefully selected patients with Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, dystonia and other movement disorders. He has performed more than 80 Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) surgeries. He is also experienced in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery, lesioning, neuromodulation, spinal cord stimulation and baclofen pump surgery. Dr. Sawhney has received specialized international training in Functional Neurosurgery and Epilepsy Surgery in Japan. He completed a Fellowship in Functional Neurosurgery at Tokyo Women’s Medical University with Prof. Taira and an Epilepsy Surgery Fellowship at Juntendo University with Prof. Sugano. This specialized training bolsters his expertise in assessing and managing select patients with drug-resistant epilepsy. He treats brain and spinal tumors, aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), neurotrauma and complex spinal disorders in general neurosurgical practice. He is also trained in awake craniotomy, neuroendoscopy, microneurosurgery, minimally invasive and endoscopic spine surgery and management of spinal tumors and craniovertebral junction disorders. Dr. Sawhney has also been involved in medical education apart from his clinical work. He has been involved in training medical students and health care professionals as an Assistant Professor in St. John’s Medical College, Bangalore.
