Dr. Shahid Aboobaker Merchant

Dr. Shahid A. Merchant is a senior Interventional Cardiologist and Advanced Heart Failure Consultant with over 30 years of experience in interventional cardiology and 8 years in advanced heart failure care. Internationally trained at leading centers like Massachusetts General Hospital and University of Rouen, he specializes in complex high-risk interventions (CHIP), TAVI procedures, cardiac imaging, and management of cardiogenic shock. He is actively involved in advanced therapies including bioresorbable scaffolds, drug-coated balloons, and comprehensive heart failure management. Dr. Merchant has also contributed extensively to national and international conferences and collaborates closely with Dr. K. R. Balakrishnan in the field of advanced heart and lung failure. Academically, he is the Program Director for a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Advanced Heart & Lung Failure (2025) and a Reviewer with the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation. He is affiliated with global bodies such as the European Society of Cardiology (FESC) and Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, and is the Founder & CEO of the Heart Failure Foundation of India (HFFI), while also serving in key academic roles across India and internationally.
