Dr. Sunil Morekar

With extensive experience in ophthalmology, Dr. Sunil Morekar serves as a Consultant Ophthalmologist at S.L. Raheja Hospital – A Fortis Associate, Mahim, Mumbai. His surgical experience includes more than 75,000 procedures encompassing cataract, glaucoma, squint correction, cornea, neuro-ophthalmology, and oculoplastic surgeries. He has received six national awards across subspecialties including Oculoplasty, Glaucoma, and Neuro-Ophthalmology, and has 12 ophthalmological contributions named after him, along with one patent. Dr. Morekar pioneered Corneal Reinnervation Surgery in India, a technique that uses nerves from the leg to restore vision, and has conducted training on this procedure at international conferences in Mexico, Spain, and South Africa, while also delivering lectures in 10 countries. His academic contributions include authoring 60 textbook chapters, serving as Editor of the Bombay Journal of Ophthalmology and Associate Editor of the Indian Journal of Ophthalmology, and co-authoring the “Diabetes Eye Care Guidelines,” translated into 13 languages and cited in over 300 scientific papers. He is a member of the International Association of Medical Science Educators, USA, and currently serves as Co-Chairman of the Ethics Committee of the All India Ophthalmological Society. His teaching and lectures have extended across five continents, including sessions at Harvard and multiple global congresses.
