Dr. Usman Koya Shabeer Ahmed

Dr. Shabeer Ahmed is a distinguished Senior Consultant Gastrointestinal, Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgeon with over 20 years of extensive surgical experience. Internationally trained in Ireland and the UK, he is recognized for his expertise in advanced minimally invasive surgery and is an acknowledged teacher and mentor by the Association of Laparoscopic Surgery (ALS), UK. He completed his MBBS with honours from Madras University (1986) and MS in General Surgery from Mysore University (1989). He underwent eight years of specialist surgical training in the Republic of Ireland (1989–1996) and earned the prestigious FRCS (England) in 1995. He further specialized under the renowned Professor Alfred Cuschieri at Ninewells Hospital, Scotland, and obtained a Master's in Minimal Access Surgery (MMAS) from the University of Dundee. He also completed a year of dedicated research in laparoscopic surgery, submitting his thesis in 2002. Dr. Ahmed served as Consultant Colorectal Surgeon in the Republic of Ireland (1998–2001) and later at Queen Margaret Hospital, Scotland. He established a laparoscopic colorectal surgery centre at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, where he successfully performed around 240 laparoscopic colorectal cancer surgeries. In recognition of his expertise, ALS, UK appointed him as a Preceptor, enabling him to train surgeons across the United Kingdom. An accomplished researcher and academician, Dr. Ahmed has contributed extensively to colon cancer screening, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), laparoscopic surgery, clinical ethics, and surgical education. He has supervised several research projects and clinical trials and authored numerous peer-reviewed publications. His areas of expertise include advanced laparoscopic gastrointestinal surgery, gastrointestinal and colorectal cancer surgery, bariatric and metabolic surgery, Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery (VATS), and other complex minimally invasive procedures.
