After a liver transplant, following the right diet is crucial for recovery and long-term success. In this video, Dr. Vikram Namdev Raut, Senior Consultant - Liver Transplant at Fortis Hospital, Mulund, explains the key dietary precautions every transplant patient must follow.

Early post-transplant stages carry a higher risk of infections, which makes food safety extremely important. Avoiding unhygienic and contaminated food is essential. Grapefruit and grapefruit juice must be avoided as they can interfere with immunosuppressive medications. A protein-rich diet including eggs, milk, lentils, and pulses is recommended to support healing. Additionally, a low-fat, high-fibre diet with well-cooked vegetables helps maintain liver health.

These dietary restrictions, especially in the initial months post-transplant, play a vital role in protecting the new liver and supporting a smooth recovery.
