FAQs

  • What are the symptoms of cancer?
Cancer symptoms can vary greatly based on the type and stage of the disease. Typical signs include unexplained weight loss, fatigue, pain, skin changes, a persistent cough or hoarseness, alterations in bowel or bladder habits, and abnormal bleeding or discharge.
  • How is cancer diagnosed?
Cancer is usually diagnosed using a combination of approaches, such as a physical exam, reviewing medical history, imaging tests (like X-rays, CT scans, or MRIs), lab tests (including blood tests or biopsies), and occasionally genetic testing.
  • What are the treatment options for cancer?
Cancer treatment options vary based on the type, stage, and location of the disease. Common approaches include surgery, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, hormone therapy, etc. At Fortis Hospital, Manesar, a personalized treatment plan is created for each patient by a team of healthcare professionals from various specialties.
  • How will my treatment plan be determined?
A team of healthcare professionals, including oncologists, surgeons, and other specialists, will create your treatment plan. They will take into account factors like the type and stage of cancer, your overall health, and your personal preferences to design a plan that best suits your individual needs.
  • What is radiation therapy, and will I need it?
Radiation therapy employs high-energy rays to destroy cancer cells or reduce tumor size. It can be administered externally through external beam radiation or internally via brachytherapy. The need for radiation therapy will be based on the type and location of your cancer, along with other factors evaluated by our team of doctors.
  • What is chemotherapy, and will I need it?
Chemotherapy involves using drugs to destroy cancer cells. It can be taken orally or administered through an IV and may be used as the main treatment or alongside other therapies. The decision to use chemotherapy depends on several factors, such as the type and stage of cancer, as well as the treatment objectives.
  • How long will my treatment last?
The length of cancer treatment varies based on factors like the type and stage of cancer, the treatments involved, and how your body reacts to them. Some treatments may last just a few weeks, while others could take months or even years to complete.
  • What is Robotic Surgery, and why is it recommended for cancer treatment?
Robotic surgery involves the use of the advanced Da Vinci Xi Surgical Robot, which is controlled by our specialist surgeon. It allows for minimally invasive procedures with enhanced precision, greater flexibility, and 3D visualization. The benefits include: • Smaller incisions and less scarring. • Reduced blood loss and pain. • Faster recovery and shorter hospital stays.
  • What are the advanced systemic therapies offered in Medical Oncology?
Beyond standard chemotherapy, we offer the latest advancements in cancer care, including Immunotherapy (using the body's own immune system to fight cancer) and Targeted Therapy (drugs that target specific cancer cell mutations).
  • Is Robotic Surgery an option for every type of cancer?
Robotic surgery is particularly effective for complex procedures requiring high precision, such as Uro-Oncology and Gynaecologic Oncology. Our specialists will determine if you are an ideal candidate based on the type, stage, and location of your cancer.
  • What are HIPEC and PIPAC, and what types of cancer do they treat?
Both are advanced techniques for treating peritoneal surface malignancies (cancers that have spread to the abdominal lining). They are typically used for advanced ovarian, colorectal, gastric, and appendix cancers. • HIPEC (Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy): This is performed immediately after Cytoreductive Surgery (surgical tumor removal). Heated, high-dose chemotherapy is circulated directly inside the abdomen to eliminate microscopic cancer cells. It is a one-time treatment for patients fit for major surgery. • PIPAC (Pressurized Intraperitoneal Aerosol Chemotherapy): This is a minimally invasive (laparoscopic) procedure where chemotherapy is delivered as a pressurized aerosol mist. It's often used for disease control in patients who may not be candidates for major surgery and can be repeated every 6-8 weeks.
  • Why choose Fortis Hospital, Manesar, Gurugram, for HIPEC or PIPAC surgery?
HIPEC and PIPAC are highly complex procedures that require exceptional infrastructure and a specialized surgical team trained in peritoneal surface oncology. Our facility combines the expertise of specialized surgical oncologists with a dedicated ICU and critical care team essential for managing these major procedures safely, positioning us as a key center for HIPEC Surgery in Delhi NCR.
