Building Robotic Surgery Proficiency: A Weeklong da Vinci Training Success Story

Dr. Manish Joshi, May 04, 2026

At Fortis Hospitals, advancing surgical excellence goes hand in hand with empowering the next generation of clinicians through structured learning and hands-on innovation. In a proud milestone for the Robotic Surgery program, the Robotic Centre of Excellence at Fortis Hospital Bannerghatta Road successfully conducted an intensive certificate course on “Robotic Surgery – Basic Proficiency”, marking the completion of training by its first robotic surgery trainee.

We are delighted to congratulate Dr. Mohit Sharma, Senior Surgical Gastroenterologist from Amritsar, for successfully completing the weeklong advanced training program on the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System held from January 26 to February 3, 2026.

A Comprehensive Learning Experience in Robotic Surgery

The program was designed to provide an immersive and practical understanding of robotic-assisted surgical procedures through a combination of live operative exposure, simulator-based learning, and guided mentorship by experienced robotic surgeons.

Training Highlights

  • 50–60 hours of live surgical observation across multiple specialties
  • 12+ hours of simulator-based hands-on training on the da Vinci Xi System
  • Exposure to robotic surgical workflows, ergonomics, instrumentation, and patient safety protocols
  • Achievement of basic robotic surgery proficiency under expert supervision

Throughout the course, Dr. Mohit Sharma demonstrated remarkable enthusiasm, technical aptitude, and a strong commitment to mastering robotic surgical techniques. His active participation, sharp clinical observation, and dedication towards learning contributed immensely to the success of the program.

Strengthening the Future of Robotic-Assisted Surgery

Robotic-assisted surgery is transforming modern healthcare by enabling greater precision, enhanced visualization, reduced recovery time, and improved patient outcomes. As the adoption of robotic platforms continues to grow, structured training programs play a critical role in preparing surgeons to confidently integrate this technology into clinical practice.

The Robotic Centre of Excellence at Fortis Hospital Bannerghatta Road remains committed to fostering surgical innovation through world-class infrastructure, expert mentorship, and experiential learning opportunities for surgeons across the country.

A Collaborative Effort Towards Surgical Excellence

This successful training initiative would not have been possible without the support and collaboration of the entire Robotic Surgery ecosystem at Fortis Hospitals. We also extend our sincere gratitude to our knowledge partner, Intuitive Surgical, for their continued contribution towards advancing robotic surgery education and skill development.

As robotic surgery continues to redefine the future of healthcare, programs like these are paving the way for a new generation of highly skilled robotic surgeons committed to delivering safer, smarter, and more precise surgical care.

We once again congratulate Dr. Mohit Sharma on this achievement and wish him continued success in his robotic surgery journey.
