What the latest Delhi data shows
In a reply to Parliament in late July 2026, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare reported that Delhi had recorded 360 dengue cases up to June 2026, along with 46 malaria, 21 chikungunya and 210 leptospirosis cases. The ministry said no dengue or malaria deaths, and no cases of Japanese encephalitis, had been reported in the city during that period.
Through the earlier weeks of the season, the MCD's weekly reports had tracked lower running tallies — dengue was consistently the most common of the mosquito-borne diseases, with the West, Central and Civil Lines zones among the higher-reporting areas.

Why the numbers will likely climb
In Delhi, dengue cases have historically peaked in August, September and October — after the monsoon fills every cooler, pot and puddle with breeding water. A quieter first half of the year is normal; the season is decided later.
At the national level, NCVBDC surveillance pointed to unusually early dengue transmission in 2026, with several thousand cases logged in just the first two months of the year. That early activity is one more reason health officials are urging prevention before, not after, the surge.
What the data is telling residents
- Prevent breeding now: empty and scrub coolers, pots and tanks weekly, and clear stagnant water around the home.
- Protect against bites in the early morning and late afternoon with repellents, full sleeves and nets or screens.
- Be alert to leptospirosis after wading through floodwater — its early symptoms mimic a viral fever.
- See a doctor for any fever lasting more than 2–3 days, rather than waiting it out.
The catch with the numbers
Different systems report slightly different tallies at different cut-off dates — the MCD's weekly civic report and the MoHFW's surveillance figures won't always match to the number. Cases acquired outside Delhi, or with incomplete address details, also complicate the picture.
So treat any single figure as a provisional snapshot, not a final score. The trend and the prevention message matter more than the exact count on a given week.

- Dengue warning signs: severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, bleeding, drowsiness or fast breathing.
- Fever, muscle aches or red eyes in the days after wading through floodwater (possible leptospirosis).
- Any fever lasting more than 2–3 days, or a person who looks unwell, dehydrated or confused.
