Negative impact on your Heart When You Eat Dinner After 9 PM Daily ?
Our body works on a circadian rhythm with a 24-hour day-and-night cycle. During the night, there should be a natural dip in blood pressure and metabolism, allowing the body to relax, recover, and heal.
Eating dinner late, especially after 9 PM, keeps blood pressure elevated and increases metabolic stress. This can contribute to arterial hypertension and a higher risk of Type 2 diabetes, as late eating interferes with glucose tolerance and insulin response. According to a study published in Nature Communications, people who ate late had a 28% higher incidence of stroke compared to those who ate before 8 PM.
Late-night meals can also cause acid reflux and poor sleep quality, leading to spikes in heart rate, blood pressure, and inflammation. Over time, these effects may increase the risk of heart attack and other cardiovascular problems.
To reduce these risks, try to eat dinner between 7 and 8 PM, maintain a gap of 2–3 hours between dinner and sleep, and keep your dinner light with less fat and carbohydrate.
