Dr. Kusum Thakur

Dr. Kusum K. Thakur is an experienced Transfusion Medicine Specialist with over 30 years of expertise in Blood Banking, Immunohaematology, Blood Component Therapy, Donor Management, and Quality Assurance in Transfusion Services. She completed her MD in Pathology from Government Medical College, Patiala and MBBS from Government Medical College, Amritsar, with first-class academic achievements. She has also completed PGDMCH and PGDHHM from IGNOU through reputed medical institutions. Dr. Thakur has extensive experience in blood safety practices, voluntary blood donation programs, blood component preparation, patient blood management, donor counselling, transfusion reaction evaluation, haemovigilance, and laboratory quality systems. She has been actively involved in improving transfusion services and promoting safe blood practices. She was the President of the Indian Society of Blood Transfusion & Immunohaematology (ISBTI), Punjab Chapter, and has contributed significantly to strengthening transfusion medicine activities across Punjab. Her work includes promoting voluntary blood donation, thalassemia and haemophilia awareness, and development of blood donor registry initiatives. Her academic contributions include national and international presentations, research publications, book chapters, and editorial work. She has co-edited the book “Transfusion Update” and contributed chapters related to transfusion medicine. Dr. Thakur has received several recognitions and multiple honours for excellence in blood transfusion services and voluntary blood donation initiatives.
