Dr. VP Sharma

Dr V P Sharma is one of the most renowned and experienced Interventional Cardiologists in North India, with over three decades of expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. An alumnus of the prestigious Maulana Azad Medical College, he completed his MBBS in 1980, followed by an MD in Internal Medicine from Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and a DM in Cardiology from Govind Ballabh Pant Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, New Delhi. Dr. Sharma is recognized as a pioneer of advanced cardiac interventions in Punjab and North India. He performed India’s first Balloon Mitral Valvotomy using the Inoue Balloon technique in 1988 and introduced several landmark procedures in Punjab, including the first AICD implantation, radial artery coronary interventions, primary angioplasty in cardiogenic shock, endovascular repair of a leaking aortic aneurysm, and non-surgical closure of congenital heart defects such as ASD, VSD and PDA. A respected academician, Dr. Sharma has authored over 34 publications in reputed national and international journals. He is also a Founding Director of Fortis Hospital Jalandhar, where he has played a key role in establishing one of the region’s most advanced cardiac care programs.
