Dr. VP Sharma

Dr. V.P. Sharma is one of the most eminent and experienced interventional cardiologists practicing north of Delhi. A graduate of the prestigious Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi, Dr. Sharma completed his MBBS in 1980, followed by an M.D. in Internal Medicine from R.M.L. Hospital and a D.M. in Cardiology from G.B. Pant Hospital, Delhi University. With over three decades of experience in both non-invasive and interventional cardiology, Dr. Sharma has been a pioneer in introducing advanced cardiac procedures in Punjab and North India. He has over 34 publications in reputed national and international journals to his credit, reflecting his academic commitment and clinical expertise. Dr. Sharma holds several “Firsts” in cardiac interventions in the region, including: - First to perform Balloon Mitral Valvotomy using the Inoue balloon in India (1988) - First AICD (Automatic Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator) implantation in Punjab (1996) - Pioneered Coronary interventions via Radial Approach in Punjab (1996) - Performed the first Primary PTCA in Cardiogenic Shock in Punjab - Executed AV Fistula and Endovascular (non-surgical) repair of leaking Aortic Aneurysm – first of its kind in Punjab (1996) - Among the first to introduce non-surgical closure of Congenital Heart Defects (PDA, ASD, VSD) in the private sector in Punjab Dr. Sharma is founding Directors of Fortis Hospital Jalandhar and under his visionary leadership, the Cardiac Sciences Department has grown into one of the most trusted and advanced cardiac facilities in the region, known for offering quality cardiac care.
