43-year-old Police Officer with Debilitating Back Pain treated successfully via Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery at Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta Road, Bengaluru

Hassan, June 2025: Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta Road, Bengaluru has successfully treated a 43-year-old male police officer from Hassan suffering from severe back and leg pain, using a minimally invasive micro lumbar discectomy, a specialized procedure performed to relieve pain caused by a herniated disc. The surgery was performed by Dr Raghuram G, Additional Director – Neurosurgery, Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta Road along with his expert team. The patient was able to walk on the same day and resumed normal activities within a week.
Patient Mr. Rajesh (name changed) is a Hassan-based police officer, whose demanding duties requires prolonged standing and occasional heavy lifting, which further contributed to the worsening of his spinal condition to the extent where he could barely walk a few steps without intense pain. Initially, he had visited a local clinic in his hometown, where doctors had advised muscle relaxants and painkillers. However, the pain persisted, and his family members brought him to Fortis for consultation.
On evaluation, an MRI scan of lumbar spine revealed a slipped disc along with disc dehydration, which was compressing the surrounding nerves, necessitating urgent surgical intervention.
Explaining the procedure Dr Raghuram G, Additional Director – Neurosurgery, Fortis Hospital Bannerghatta Road, said, " Given the severity of the patient’s condition, we recommended micro lumbar discectomy. (A minimally invasive procedure with excellent outcomes and faster recovery) The procedure was smooth and uneventful. Post-operatively, he was monitored in the NSICU and received intravenous antibiotics, analgesics, and supportive care. Remarkably, he experienced immediate pain relief on the very first day and was able to walk within hours after surgery with the support of physiotherapy. Minimally invasive spine surgery like this not only reduces post-operative pain and hospital stay but also allows most patients to return to work within a week. There were no complications, and the patient has been discharged in stable condition.”
At the time of discharge, Mr. Rajesh was pain-free, ambulant, and advised to continue core strengthening and back muscle exercises to prevent future episodes.
