Manesar, 12 May, 2026: Reinforcing its commitment to advanced surgical excellence and next-generation minimally invasive care, the Department of General Surgery at Fortis Hospital Manesar has successfully
completed 50+ robot-assisted surgeries, contributing to the hospital’s overall milestone of more than 150
robotic procedures across specialties. The achievement reflects the hospital’s growing expertise in managing complex abdominal wall reconstruction, hernia repair, and gallbladder surgeries through advanced robotic-assisted procedures.
Marking this milestone, the hospital highlighted several complex and successful patient outcomes
managed through robotic-assisted surgery. Among the notable cases was a 61-year-old woman who
underwent robotic-assisted surgery for a large and complex irreducible abdominal hernia. The procedure
was particularly challenging due to her multiple co-morbidities, including liver cirrhosis, diabetes,
hypertension, anaemia, and hypothyroidism. Using robotic technology, surgeons were able to perform
the repair with enhanced precision, superior control, and minimal blood loss, significantly lowering the
risk of complications such as bowel obstruction and tissue damage. The surgery lasted over two hours,
and the patient recovered steadily in stable condition.
In another emergency case, a 49-year-old man presented with severe abdominal pain caused by a
recurrent umbilical hernia along with separation of the abdominal muscles. He underwent a complex
robot-assisted mesh repair using a minimally invasive approach to reconstruct and reinforce the
abdominal wall. The surgery, which lasted over three hours, successfully repaired both the hernia defect
and muscle separation, significantly reducing the risk of recurrence and future complications while
enabling a smoother recovery. Robotic-assisted techniques are increasingly being adopted for complex
abdominal wall reconstruction because of their precision and minimally invasive benefits.
The robot-assisted surgical programme has also demonstrated strong clinical outcomes in gallbladder surgeries. A 32-year-old woman underwent a robot-assisted cholecystectomy for gallstones and was able
to recover quickly enough to travel the very next day for an important family commitment. Similarly, a 28-
year-old woman was admitted with severe right upper abdominal pain and diagnosed with symptomatic
gallstones. Clinical evaluation revealed tenderness in the right upper abdomen, while further assessment
confirmed the presence of a large gallbladder stone. She underwent a robotic-assisted cholecystectomy,
where the minimally invasive robotic approach ensured precise removal of the gallbladder with minimal
pain and faster recovery. Her post-operative recovery was smooth, and she was discharged in stable
condition within two days.
