Father's Gift of Life: Two Families, Two Kidney Donations, One Shared Mission to Save Their Children

- On Father's Day, two families celebrate a second chance at life made possible by a father's selfless act of organ donation -

Noida, June 20, 2026: The bond between a parent and child is one of life's most profound relationships. When faced with a child suffering from illness, a parent's love can manifest in the most extraordinary ways. This Father's Day, two families are celebrating that bond in its purest form after two fathers donated their kidneys to save the lives of their children suffering from advanced kidney disease.

In the first such case, 34-year-old Rahul from Hisar, was battling end-stage kidney disease and had
been dependent on dialysis for 6 months. However, his condition worsened leading to weakness, low energy, poor appetite, inability to work and a significant weight loss - from 75 kg to 65 kg in 6 months. Additionally, he had dietary and water restrictions and was undergoing dialysis three times a week. Owing to which he wasn’t able to fulfil his official commitments, leading him to feel hopeless and depressed.

As hope of a normal life and good health began to fade, Rahul and his family approached Fortis Hospital Noida, where Dr. Anuja Porwal - Director, Nephrology alongwith a team of senior doctors including Dr. Shailendra Goyal - Director, Urology, Fortis Hospital Noida and Dr. Piyush Varshney -Director, Urology, Fortis Hospital Noida conducted a detailed evaluation. Based on the assessment, a kidney transplant was identified as the best treatment option. As Rahul's mother’s blood group was different from his and she wasn’t keeping well, his father came forward to donate his kidney, giving his son a second chance in life. Following the transplant, Rahul has regained his health and returned to a near normal quality of life.

In the second case, 26-year-old Disha from Aligarh, a teacher by profession, had been suffering from
persistent abdominal pain since 2023. She underwent an ultrasound in Aligarh, which revealed
Polycystic Kidney Disease, a genetic disease that gradually impairs kidney function and can
eventually lead to kidney failure. Her family got scared and consulted Dr Anuja Porwal. She was then
advised to do kidney transplant at Fortis Noida, as this is the best treatment available for kidney
failure.
Further evaluation and Genetic testing at Fortis Hospital Noida confirmed that Disha had inherited the gene responsible for Polycystic Kidney Disease from her mother, while her father did not carry the mutation. This made her father a suitable kidney donor. However, her father was overweight and after counseling, he worked on himself and lost weight just to become fit for kidney donation. The Kidney Transplant was successful; Disha gradually recovered and was discharged in a stable condition in 8 days. Currently, she is doing good, with full of zeal and enthusiasm for life due to renewed energy level.

Giving details of the cases, Dr. Anuja Porwal, Director, Nephrology, Fortis Hospital Noida said,
“Kidney transplantation is widely regarded as the most effective treatment for suitable patients with
kidney failure, offering improved quality of life, better long-term outcomes, and greater longevity
compared to long-term dialysis”. She added, “Traditionally, women are more often seen as organ
donors within families, but these two cases highlight the extraordinary role fathers can play in saving
their children's lives. The unwavering resolve and the strength of the familial bonds inspired them to
step forward and donate a kidney. Beyond the emotional significance, these cases also underscore
the importance of organ donation and the urgent need to raise awareness about the critical need for
more donors and the transformative impact a single act of kindness can have on countless lives.”

Mr. Mohit Singh, Zonal Director, Fortis Hospital Noida said, “These transplant journeys are a
testament to the combination of cutting-edge medical expertise, compassionate care and strong
family support. At Fortis Hospital Noida, we are dedicated to offering holistic and patient-centric
healthcare solutions that empower individuals to overcome complex health conditions and regain
their quality of life.”
