Fortis Gurugram and BRD Medical College Collaborate to Organise HLA Camp on Thalassemia Day

- Launches Thalassemia Clinic in Association with Annapurna Hospitals-

Gorakhpur, May, 2025: In a significant step towards strengthening community healthcare in Gorakhpur, Fortis Hospital, Gurugram, in collaboration with BRD Medical College, organized HLA (Human Leukocyte Antigen) camp to mark Thalassemia Day. The initiative reflects a shared commitment to raising awareness and advancing treatment for thalassemia patients.

The event witnessed the participation of distinguished healthcare leaders, including Dr. Ram Kumar, Principal, BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur, Dr. Bhupendra Sharma, Head of the Department of Paediatrics, BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur, Dr. Shilpa Vahikar, President, BRD Women’s Club and Dr. Rahul Bhargava, Principal Director and Chief – Haematology, Haemato Oncology & BMT, Fortis Hospital, Gurugram.

In addition to the HLA camp, the partnership was further strengthened with the launch of a dedicated Thalassemia Clinic, a joint initiative by Fortis Hospital and Annapurna Hospitals. This clinic is set to offer advanced diagnostic and treatment facilities for thalassemia, providing a much-needed resource for patients and families in the region. The Thalassemia Clinic was officially inaugurated by Dr. Manglesh Srivastava, Hon’ble Mayor of Gorakhpur, in the presence of Dr. Rahul Bhargava, Principal Director, Haematology, Haemato Oncology & BMT, Fortis Hospital, Gurugram, and Dr. Rajesh Gupta, Director, Annapurna Hospital.

Thalassemia is a preventable genetic blood disorder; yet more than 10,000 to 15,000 children are born with it each year in India. Mission 2035 aims to change this reality by raising awareness, promoting early screening and genetic counselling, improving access to treatment, and advocating for policy-level reforms to prevent new cases”
