Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta Road Performs Minimally Invasive Procedure to Treat Complex Uterine Condition in 37-Year-Old Woman
Chikmagalur, 08 July 2025 – Fortis Hospital Bannerghatta Road, Bengaluru has successfully treated a 37-year-old woman, who was suffering from abnormal uterine bleeding due to a misplaced intrauterine device (Mirena) and a large uterine fibroid. Under the expert care of Dr. Manisha Rajpal Singh, Additional Director Reproductive Medicine, Fortis Hospital Bannerghatta Road and her team, the patient underwent a minimally invasive hysteroscopic procedure to remove the misplaced Mirena, followed by laparoscopic surgery to remove the fibroid. She was discharged in a stable condition within three days.
Mrs. Anisha (name changed), a patient from Chikkamagaluru, visited Fortis Hospital with a history of frequent and heavy menstrual cycles accompanied by severe pain for over 18 months. A year ago, she had a Mirena device inserted at another hospital to manage her heavy bleeding. The Mirena is a small device that releases hormones to thin the uterine lining, reducing heavy periods and preventing pregnancy. However, despite having the device, her symptoms persisted.
A detailed examination revealed that the intrauterine device was misplaced inside her uterus, and she had developed a large uterine fibroid pressing on the uterine wall, contributing to her symptoms. These issues severely affected her health and quality of life, necessitating immediate surgical care.
Dr. Manisha Singh, Additional Director - Gynaecologist & Subspecialist in Reproductive Medicine & Surgery at Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta Road, Bangalore, said, “Given the severity of her condition, we employed a minimally invasive approach to simultaneously remove the fibroid and retrieve the displaced Mirena device under general anesthesia. This precise technique, utilizing small incisions, not only ensured a faster recovery but also minimized post-operative discomfort. By successfully addressing both issues, we were able to alleviate her debilitating symptoms, significantly enhancing her overall quality of life, and the patient made a swift and uneventful recovery.”
Mr. Akshay Oleti, Business Head of Fortis Hospitals Bengaluru, added, “Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta Road, continues to deliver world-class care in reproductive medicine, offering advanced diagnostic and surgical options tailored to individual patient needs. This case
highlights the hospital’s growing recognition as a centre for advanced gynaecological care.”
