Fortis Hospital Greater Noida Organises Cancer Awareness Session at Galgotias College and GL Bajaj College

Greater Noida, November 9, 2025: Fortis Hospital Greater Noida organised a series of Health Talks to raise awareness about cancer prevention, early detection, and lifestyle modification among students across two leading institutions in Greater Noida — Galgotias College of Engineering & Technology and GL Bajaj Institute of Technology & Management. The interactive sessions aimed to empower young adults with the knowledge to make informed health choices and understand the critical importance of early screening.

In 2025, India is projected to see about 1.57 million new cancer cases, with the most common cancers among men being oral cavity and lung cancers, both strongly linked to tobacco use. Among women, breast cancer remains the leading type accounting for nearly 28–33% of all female cancers followed by cervical, ovarian, and oral cancers. This ongoing rise in cancer burden, coupled with late-stage detection, results in high mortality and significant economic impact, underscoring the urgent need for widespread awareness, early screening, and preventive strategies across the country.

Speaking about the same, Dr Jyoti Anand, Senior Consultant – Oncology, Fortis Hospital, Greater Noida, said, “Awareness is the most powerful tool we have against cancer. Early detection can make all the difference, and it begins with understanding the risk factors and making informed lifestyle choices. Interacting with students is vital because it helps us plant the seeds of awareness early, empowering them to not only safeguard their own health but also influence their families and peers.”

The sessions focused on helping students recognise early warning signs, understand the benefits of regular check-ups, and adopt preventive health habits such as maintaining a balanced diet, staying physically active, and avoiding tobacco and alcohol use.

Siddharth Nigam, Facility Director, Fortis Hospital, Greater Noida, added, “Cancer prevention begins with awareness. Through initiatives like these, Fortis Hospital Greater Noida aims to reach out to the youth the torchbearers of change and help them understand that early detection and a healthy lifestyle can save lives. Our goal is to take credible medical information beyond hospital walls and make preventive healthcare a part of everyday life.”

The initiative underscores Fortis Hospital Greater Noida’s strong commitment to community engagement and preventive healthcare. By extending such educational outreach to college campuses, the hospital continues its mission of promoting health literacy and encouraging proactive screening practices to curb the growing burden of cancer in India.
