Fortis Hospital Jalandhar Announces Treatment of 111 STEMI Cases, Reinforcing Its Advanced Cardiac Care Capabilities in the Region

 – Primary angioplasty performed in 91 cases highlights the hospital's growing strength in time-critical heart care for patients across Punjab –

Jalandhar, September 22, 2026: Fortis Hospital Jalandhar today announced the treatment of 111 patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), a severe and time-critical form of heart attack, underlining the strength of its cardiac sciences division. Of these, 91 patients underwent primary percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA), while 19 received thrombolysis, a clot-dissolving therapy.

STEMI occurs when a coronary artery is completely blocked, cutting off blood supply to the heart muscle. Restoring blood flow quickly is critical to limiting heart damage. Primary PTCA, an emergency angioplasty that reopens the blocked artery, is the preferred treatment where it can be delivered promptly, and nearly 82 per cent of the hospital's STEMI patients received it. Thrombolysis remains an important option in appropriate cases.

Commenting on the milestone, Dr. VP Sharma, Senior Director and HOD, Cardiology, Fortis Hospital Jalandhar, said, "In a STEMI, every minute of delay means greater damage to the heart muscle. The 111 cases we have managed since November reflect the readiness of our cardiology team and the close coordination between our emergency, cath lab and critical care units. Performing primary angioplasty in 91 of these patients shows our ability to restore blood flow quickly."

Highlighting the vision behind this progress, Dr. Ankush Mehta, Facility Director, Fortis Hospital Jalandhar, said, "These numbers go beyond statistics; they reflect our ability to deliver timely, life-saving cardiac care close to home. With expanded critical care capacity, advanced technologies and a strong team of specialists, our priority is to ensure that patients across Jalandhar and neighbouring regions have access to high-quality emergency heart care whenever they need it."

Fortis Hospital Jalandhar has steadily advanced its cardiac sciences capabilities, supported by expert cardiologists, coordinated emergency and critical care teams, and expanded Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and High Dependency Unit (HDU) capacities for critically ill patients. The hospital also offers paediatric cardiology services and 3D electroanatomic mapping for complex cardiac rhythm disorders, and continues to strengthen its role as a trusted centre for emergency and advanced heart care in Punjab.
