Fortis Hospital Ludhiana Organizes Blood Donation Camp on World Blood Donor Day
~Honoring the selfless act of saving lives through voluntary blood donation~
Ludhiana, June 2025: In observance of World Blood Donor Day, Fortis Hospital Ludhiana organized a Blood Donation Camp on Saturday, 14th June 2025, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Blood Centre, Fortis Hospital Ludhiana, Chandigarh Road. Led by Dr. Heenakshi Shyamlal Sharma, Consultant & HOD, Blood Centre and Dr. Vishavdeep Goyal, Zonal Director & SBU Head, the initiative aimed to raise awareness about the life-saving impact of voluntary blood donation. Blood and plasma are critical components in the treatment of patients with trauma injuries, cancer, chronic diseases, and those undergoing major surgeries.
The theme for World Blood Donor Day 2025 - “20 Years of Celebrating Giving: Thank you blood donors!” – marks two decades of global efforts in promoting voluntary blood donation and expresses deep gratitude to the millions of donors whose contributions continue to save lives every day. The campaign inspired a new generation of regular blood donors to come forward and build a stronger, more resilient healthcare system.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Heenakshi Shyamlal Sharma, Consultant & HOD, Blood Centre, Fortis Ludhiana, said, “In India, demand for blood often exceeds availability, especially during emergencies, surgeries and in the management of chronic ailments like thalassemia, cancer, and postpartum hemorrhage. Unlike replacement donation, voluntary donation ensures timely availability and better testing outcomes”
Dr. Vishavdeep Goyal, Zonal Director & SBU Head, Fortis Ludhiana, added: “India continues to face a significant gap between the demand and supply of blood, and unfortunately, lives are lost every year due to the unavailability of timely transfusions. This is a harsh reality that can only be changed by cultivating a strong culture of voluntary blood donation. At Fortis Ludhiana, we aim to raise awareness and encourage individuals to come forward regularly to donate blood—because timely access to safe blood can make the difference between life and death.”
Through such initiatives, Fortis Hospital Ludhiana reaffirms its long-standing commitment to promoting voluntary blood donation and ensuring timely access to safe blood. The hospital expressed gratitude to all the donors who came forward and contributed to this life-saving cause.
