Fortis Hospital Ludhiana Promotes Heart Health Awareness Through Community Fitness Initiative on World Hypertension Day
Ludhiana, 19 May, 2026: On the occasion of World Hypertension Day, Fortis Hospital Ludhiana, in association with Patanjali Yog Group Ludhiana, organised a special community Zumba and fitness awareness session at Rakh Bagh from 6:00 AM to 8:00 AM to encourage healthier lifestyles and raise awareness about hypertension and cardiovascular health.
The initiative witnessed participation from over 100 individuals, including doctors, hospital staff, fitness enthusiasts, and members of the public participated in the energetic morning Zumba session. The purpose was to spread awareness about the importance of maintaining healthy blood pressure levels and reducing the risk of heart disease, stroke, and other cardiovascular complications.
Hypertension, commonly known as high blood pressure, is often referred to as a “silent killer” as it may remain undetected for years while significantly increasing the risk of heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, and other serious health complications. Through this initiative, Fortis Hospital Ludhiana aimed to encourage people to adopt healthier habits, including regular exercise, stress management, balanced nutrition, and timely health screenings.
Dr Paramdeep Singh Sandhu, Director, Cardiology, Fortis Hospital Ludhiana said, “Sedentary lifestyles, unhealthy eating habits, obesity, and stress are contributing significantly to the rising burden of hypertension, even among younger individuals. Regular exercise combined with routine blood pressure monitoring can go a long way in preventing long-term cardiac complications. Community awareness programmes such as these play a vital role in encouraging preventive healthcare.”
Speaking about the initiative, Dr Sandeep Chopra, Director, Cardiology, Fortis Hospital Ludhiana said, “Hypertension is one of the leading causes of cardiovascular diseases across the world, and unfortunately many people remain unaware of their condition until serious complications occur. Activities like Zumba not only promote fitness but also help in stress reduction and heart health improvement. Through this initiative, we want to motivate people to make physical activity a regular part of their daily routine.”
Highlighting the importance of active living, Dr Manav Wadhera, Associate Consultant, Cardiology, Fortis Hospital Ludhiana said, “Simple lifestyle changes can make a major difference in controlling blood pressure and improving overall heart health. Physical activities like Zumba are enjoyable, accessible, and effective ways to stay active. We encourage people of all age groups to participate and take proactive steps towards a healthier life.”
Dr Nikhil Bansal, Senior Consultant, Cardio Thoracic Vascular Surgery, Fortis Hospital Ludhiana added, “Uncontrolled hypertension can significantly increase the risk of heart attack, stroke, and other serious cardiovascular conditions. Prevention and early intervention remain the best strategies to reduce these risks. Initiatives like this help spread awareness in an engaging and positive manner while reinforcing the importance of heart-healthy habits.”
Mr. Sunveer Singh Bhambra, Facility Director, Fortis Hospital Ludhiana said, “At Fortis Hospital Ludhiana, we strongly believe that preventive healthcare and community awareness are essential for building a healthier society. Through initiatives like this Zumba session on World Hypertension Day, we aim to encourage people to adopt healthier lifestyles and understand the importance of regular exercise and timely health check-ups.
