Fortis Hospital Manesar Achieves Major Milestone of 300 Cardiac Surgeries, Showcasing Expertise in Rare and High-Risk Life-Saving Procedures

Manesar, 28 January, 2026: Fortis Hospital Manesar has successfully completed 300 cardiac surgeries,
reinforcing its position as a leading centre for advanced Adult and Paediatric cardiac care in the region.
The milestone reflects the hospital’s growing expertise in handling high-risk, complex and rare cardiac
conditions, including redo surgeries, minimally invasive procedures, scarless endoscopic surgeries and
intricate congenital heart defect corrections.

Over the past one year, the cardiac team at Fortis Manesar has managed some of the most challenging
cases referred from across India and neighbouring countries, delivering clinical outcomes that are
comparable to international benchmarks.

One such case involved a 14-year-old girl suffering from a congenital heart condition, who wassuccessfully treated using a rare interventional Fontan procedure, offering a minimally invasive alternative to openheart surgery. The procedure involved placing a special stent to redirect blood flow from the lower body directly to the lungs, bypassing part of the heart. This procedure is innovative because the doctors used a special technique that applies controlled electrosurgical technique to safely create a small opening in the pulmonary artery and the heart wall, allowing the stent to be placed without open-heart surgery.

In another notable clinical achievement, the team performed a complex double valve replacement on a
47-year-old woman, who was suffering from advanced heart disease and a severely compromised quality
of life. For nearly three months prior to the surgery, she was bedridden, wheelchair-bound and dependent
on continuous oxygen support at home. With a prior history of stroke and recent heart failure, doctors
diagnosed her with advanced rheumatic heart disease involving multiple valves, irregular heart rhythm
and significantly reduced heart function. Despite the extremely high surgical risk and initial family
concerns, the doctors successfully performed a complex double valve replacement, replacing both the
aortic and mitral valves and carrying out additional procedures to prevent future complications.
Another exceptional case involved a 60-year-old man from Bangladesh, previously declared inoperable
due to prior bypass surgery and multiple co-morbidities. The Fortis Manesar team performed a rare
“beating-heart” redo minimally invasive mitral valve replacement, a procedure performed in only a few
hundred cases globally. This was performed using advanced surgical techniques that allowed doctors to
replace the mitral valve without stopping the heart, even in patients who have undergone previous heart
surgeries. The patient recovered well and was discharged in a stable condition.

The cardiac team also saved a 43-year-old man, a professional scuba diver, through a single surgery that treated his blocked arteries, a leaking heart valve and a weakened portion of the heart muscle.

Postsurgery, the patient showed marked improvement in heart function, allowing the patient to return to an active lifestyle.

A further landmark surgery involved a 6-year-old girl with Ebstein’s Anomaly, one of the rarest congenital
heart defects. Although the child was considered inoperable at other centres, surgeons at Fortis Manesar
repaired the valve using the child’s own tissue, avoiding artificial valve replacement and ensuring a smooth recovery.

Commenting on the milestone, Dr. Mahesh Wadhwani, Chief Cardiac Surgeon & HOD, CTVS, Fortis
Hospital Manesar, said, “Completing 300 cardiac surgeries reflects the trust patients place in us and the
strength of a highly coordinated multidisciplinary team. Many of these cases were considered inoperable
or extremely high-risk elsewhere. Our focus has always been on delivering advanced, evidence-based
cardiac care with outcomes that match international standards.”

Highlighting the surgical precision involved in Paediatric and Neonatal cases, Dr. Shyamveer Singh
Khangarot, Senior Consultant, Neonatal & Paediatric Cardiac Surgery, Fortis Hospital Manesar, said,
“Treating complex congenital heart defects demands tailored surgical strategies that prioritize preserving
the child’s own heart structures wherever possible. Avoiding prosthetic implants and enabling rapid
recovery are essential for enhancing long-term quality of life. These successful outcomes show that such
advanced and delicate procedures can be performed safely and effectively at specialised centres like Fortis Manesar.”

Dr. Deepak Thakur, Senior Consultant, Paediatric Cardiology, Fortis Hospital Manesar, added, “Early
diagnosis, timely referral and a seamless collaboration between Paediatric cardiology, surgery and critical care have been key to achieving these outcomes. From newborns to adolescents, we are now able to offer comprehensive, minimally invasive and definitive solutions for complex congenital heart diseases.”
Dr. Alok Ranjan Sahoo, Additional Director, Cardiac Anaesthesia, Fortis Hospital Manesar, "The success
of these high-risk redos and pediatric cases, is a testament to our advanced perioperative management
and precise anesthetic care. Our priority is ensuring patient stability and safety during the most intricate
procedures, which is fundamental to achieving the world-class clinical outcomes we see today."

Abhijit Singh, Facility Director, Fortis Hospital Manesar, said, “With a strong focus on minimally invasive
techniques, redo surgeries, congenital heart repair and complex valve procedures, Fortis Hospital Manesar continues to set new benchmarks in cardiac care. The completion of 300 cardiac surgeries underscores the hospital’s commitment to delivering world-class, patient-centric heart care closer to home.
