FORTIS HOSPITAL MULUND COLLABORATES WITH MUMBAI FIRE BRIGADE TO CONDUCT MOCK FIRE DRILL FOR FIRE SERVICE WEEK

Mumbai, 18th April 2025: In observance of Fire Service Week (April 14–20), Fortis Hospital Mulund, in collaboration with the Mumbai Fire Brigade, conducted a mock fire and rescue drill to promote fire safety and enhance emergency preparedness in the hospital. The event was attended by over 300 individuals including hospital staff, patients, and their families who were offered an informative & firsthand perspective on emergency response procedures.
With rapid modernization and development, fire risks have also increased—especially in crowded cities like Mumbai. We've seen a rise in fire incidents compared to earlier times, making it more important than ever to stay prepared. To reduce risks and save lives, we need to boost awareness about fire prevention, protection, and emergency response. Regular fire drills, proper safety equipment, and trained staff—especially in high-risk places like hospitals—can make a big difference.
The drill, which was held in the hospital premises, simulated complex rescue scenarios under the supervision of senior offices from the Mumbai Fire Brigade - A.J. Mishra, (Deputy Chief Fire Officer), V.M. Mainkar & V.D. Mayekar (Divisional Fire Officers) and P.G. Mundhe, S.S Kudtarkar, and D.M Patil (Assistant Divisional Fire Officers). The drill involved over 70 firemen, showing seamless coordination, advanced equipment and real time emergency response. As part of the initiative, Dr S. Narayani, Business Head-Fortis Hospitals Maharashtra & Dr Vishal Beri, Facility Director, Fortis Hospital Mulund also announced free comprehensive health checkup for all fire officials at the drill, recognizing their vital role in ensuring public safety.
Speaking on occasion, Dr. Vishal Beri, Facility Director, Fortis Hospital Mulund, said, “Commemorating Fire Service Week through this joint initiative is an opportunity to recognize the unwavering commitment of our fire personnels and ensure that our hospital remains prepared for any emergency scenario. At Fortis Hospital Mulund, safety is a shared responsibility, and this drill is a testament of our proactive approach to risk mitigation’’.
Speaking on same, Hon. A. J Mishra, Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Mumbai Fire Brigade said, “On April 14th, 1944, 66 firemen lost their life while fighting fire at port trust area the SS Foresan explosion – this is why from April 14 to 20 we observe Fire Service week. While fire prevention is essential, when it occurs, it must be controlled in the first phase. In case of major fire, it is essential ensure one’s own safety while helping others – because people’s lives are the nations true wealth. Collaborations like these strengthen public awareness and ensure that institutions are well equipped to handle emergencies efficiently. We appreciate the hospital’s commitment to safety and proactive approach towards fire readiness.”
