~ Decade-long training initiative focuses on improving early diagnosis and decision-making in emergency care ~ 

  02 April 2026, Mumbai, India: Fortis Hospital, Mulund successfully conducted the 10th edition of its “Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) in Emergency Medicine” workshop, marking a decade of focused training in the use of bedside ultrasound in emergency settings. 

Held, on March 26th-28th, as a pre-conference workshop for the 28th National Conference of Emergency Medicine (EMCON 2026), the programme brought together emergency physicians from across the country for practical, hands-on learning. Over the past decade, more than 400 emergency medicine doctors have been trained through this initiative, contributing to a growing base of clinicians familiar with point-of-care ultrasound applications. 

The workshop has received endorsements from organisations such as the International Federation of Emergency Medicine (IFEM), Society for Emergency Medicine India (SEMI), Association of Healthcare Providers India (AHPI), and the Maharashtra Medical Council.  

Over the years, the workshop has expanded in scope to reflect evolving clinical needs. The 10th edition included modules on resuscitative ultrasound, haemodynamic assessment, fluid responsiveness, and fluid tolerance. The focus remained on the use of ultrasound during the initial stages of patient care, where early diagnosis and timely decisions are critical. Participants underwent hands-on training in techniques such as LVOT VTI, EPSS, VEXUS, and TAPSE, which are increasingly being used in emergency and critical care settings. 

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sandeep Gore, Director - Emergency Medicine, Fortis Hospital, Mulund & Organising Chairman, EMCON 2026, said, “POCUS has become an important tool in emergency medicine. It helps improve diagnostic accuracy and allows more focused decision-making during resuscitation. Training in these techniques is essential for all emergency physicians today.”

As patient volumes and case complexities increase, structured training and standardised protocols become critical to ensuring timely and effective treatment.” 

The workshop’s association with EMCON 2026 reflects the increasing emphasis on structured, skill-based training within emergency medicine. It also underlines the growing role of bedside imaging in supporting faster clinical decisions.
