Fortis Jalandhar Organises Health Talk on Prevention of Kidney Diseases

Jalandhar, 12 March 2026: On the occasion of World Kidney Day, Fortis Hospital Jalandhar organised a special awareness program aimed at creating awareness around kidney health and recognising the courage of patients and families, who have played a vital role in the fight against kidney disease. The event featured a health talk on the prevention of kidney diseases, led by leading nephrologists-- Dr Rajeev Bhatia, Director & Senior Consultant – Nephrology & Kidney Transplantation, and Dr Ajay Marwaha, Director & Senior Consultant – Nephrology & Kidney Transplantation, Fortis Hospital, Jalandhar. The session focused on early detection, lifestyle modifications, and ways to reduce the rising burden of kidney disease. The program also witnessed the presence of Jalandhar Civil Surgeon -- Dr. Rajesh Garg, who attended the event as the Chief Guest.

In a special gesture of appreciation and encouragement, the hospital felicitated long-term dialysis survivors, long-term kidney transplant survivors, and families of deceased organ donors who have contributed to saving lives through organ donation. Their stories highlighted the resilience, hope, and life-saving impact of timely treatment and organ donation.

Speaking at the event, Dr Rajeev Bhatia, Director & Senior Consultant – Nephrology & Kidney Transplantation, Fortis Hospital,Transplantation, Fortis Hospital, Jalandhar said, “Kidney disease often progresses silently, which is why awareness and regular screening are extremely important. Through this program on World Kidney Day, we aim to educate the community about preventive measures such as maintaining healthy blood pressure and blood sugar levels, staying hydrated, and adopting a balanced lifestyle. Equally important is recognising the strength of patients who continue to live fulfilling lives despite kidney failure and the generosity of organ donors who give others a second chance at life.”

Dr Ajay Marwaha, Director & Senior Consultant – Nephrology & Kidney Transplantation, Fortis Hospital, Jalandhar said, “Advancements in dialysis and kidney transplantation have significantly improved survival and quality of life for patients with kidney failure. However, prevention remains the most powerful tool. By bringing together survivors, doctors, and donor families, we hope to inspire greater awareness about kidney health and encourage more people to support organ donation.”

During the event, kidney transplant recipients, long-term dialysis patients, and family members of organ donors also shared their personal journeys, emphasising the importance of timely treatment, community support, and awareness about organ donation.

A dialysis patient said, “Living with kidney failure has not been easy, but dialysis has given me the chance to continue living my life and spending time with my family. Programs like this remind patients like me that we are not alone in this journey. I am grateful to the doctors and healthcare teams at Fortis Hospital Jalandhar for their constant support and care.”

The family member of a kidney donor said, “Losing a loved one is extremely difficult, but knowing that their organ donation helped save someone’s life gives us comfort and pride. We hope our decision encourages more families to consider organ donation so that many more patients waiting for transplants can get a second chance at life.”
