Fortis La Femme Launches Dedicated Obesity Clinic to Empower Women’s Health & Transform Lives
-Inaugurated by Smt. Shikha Roy, Honourable Member of the Delhi Legislative Assembly

New Delhi, 13th February, 2026: Reinforcing its commitment to comprehensive women’s health, Fortis
La Femme has launched a specialised Obesity Clinic aimed at tackling the rising burden of obesity and
lifestyle-related disorders among women. The clinic was formally inaugurated by Smt. Shikha Roy,
Honourable Member of the Delhi Legislative Assembly and Harsh Mahajan, Founder and Managing
Director of Mahajan Imaging, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guests.

The clinic is designed to address complex conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, hormonal imbalances, joint disorders, infertility, and cardiovascular diseases, many of which disproportionately
affect women due to changing lifestyles, stress, and metabolic factors. The clinic will offer personalized
care plans integrating medical assessment, nutritional guidance, lifestyle counselling, behavioral support,
and, when required, advanced surgical interventions - ensuring women receive tailored care aligned with
their health goals and life stage.

Speaking at the launch, Smt. Shikha Roy, Honourable MLA, Delhi Legislative Assembly said, “Obesity is
one of the most pressing healthcare challenges facing our country today. It is no longer just a lifestyle
issue, it is a serious medical condition that directly contributes to diabetes, heart disease, and other noncommunicable diseases. Addressing obesity requires urgency, awareness, and access to specialised care. I congratulate Fortis La Femme for launching this dedicated Obesity Clinic, which is a timely initiative that empowers women with the right medical support to take charge of their health. Such efforts are critical for building healthier families and communities.”

Dr. Harsh Mahajan, Founder and Managing Director, Mahajan Imaging said, "Obesity today is not merely
a cosmetic concern but a serious metabolic disorder that demands early diagnosis, structured evaluation,
and evidence-based management. Advanced diagnostics play a critical role in understanding body composition, metabolic risk, hormonal imbalances, and obesity-linked complications at an early stage. ICommend Fortis La Femme for launching this specialised Obesity Clinic dedicated to women’s health. An integrated approach that combines precise diagnostics with clinical expertise and long-term lifestyle
support is essential to reversing the growing burden of non-communicable diseases in our country. Such
initiatives will go a long way in promoting preventive healthcare and empowering women to take informed
control of their well-being.”

Dr. Sharwari Dabhade, Consultant – Internal Medicine, Fortis La Femme said, “Obesity in women is often
the starting point of multiple chronic illnesses, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hormonal
disorders, and reproductive health issues. Early identification and intervention are crucial. Through this
clinic, we aim to address obesity as a medical condition and prevent the cascade of NCDs it leads to. Our focus is on sustainable lifestyle modification, medical management, and long-term metabolic health—not
just weight reduction.

Garima Prasad, Facility Director, Fortis La Femme said, “The launch of the Obesity Clinic reflects Fortis La Femme’s evolving vision of women-centric healthcare. In line with national health priorities, we are
expanding beyond gynaecological care to address critical lifestyle and metabolic conditions through
prevention, innovation, and compassionate clinical excellence. The Honourable Prime Minister had
recently highlighted obesity as a silent epidemic that is rapidly fuelling non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and placing immense pressure on India’s healthcare system, stressing the need for immediate preventive and clinical intervention. Echoing this national priority, the newly launched Obesity Clinic at Fortis La Femme adopts a holistic, multidisciplinary care model that goes far beyond cosmetic weight loss, focusing instead on prevention, early intervention, and long-term management of obesity-linked chronic diseases.”

Recent studies underline the urgency of tackling obesity in India. A global analysis published in The Lancet
estimates that by 2050, India could have over 440 million overweight and obese individuals across age
groups. Obesity is a complex, chronic, relapsing, and progressive disease marked by excessive fat
accumulation that impairs health. It is a major contributor to non-communicable diseases and significantly
increases the risk of cardiovascular disorders, diabetes, cancers, and musculoskeletal conditions. India
ranks among the top three countries globally in terms of obesity burden, with nearly 70 percent of the
urban population classified as overweight - making early intervention not just necessary, but imperative.
