Fortis Ludhiana Highlights Importance of Hypertension Awareness and Routine BP Monitoring

Ludhiana, May, 2025: May 17th being observed as World Hypertension Day, Fortis Hospital Ludhiana is raising awareness on the  health threat posed by undiagnosed and uncontrolled high blood pressure. Doctors at Fortis Ludhiana are urging people to prioritize regular blood pressure checks and take preventive action before hypertension leads to serious complications.

Hypertension is one of the most common yet underdiagnosed lifestyle-related condition affecting millions of people in India. It develops gradually over the years and remains asymptomatic in its initial stages, making regular blood pressure monitoring critical. Often referred to as the "silent killer", Hypertension remains one of the leading contributors to cardiovascular ailments, stroke and kidney and urology related conditions.

Dr. Sandhu, Director– Cardiology, Fortis Hospital Ludhiana, emphasized, “We see many cases where patients are diagnosed only after experiencing or being diagnosed with a life-threatening event/condition. That’s why awareness and recognizing the early symptoms are essential.  Monitor your BP regularly, and don’t ignore family history of hypertension or unhealthy lifestyle habits.”

Dr. Sandeep Chopra, Director, Cardiology, Fortis Hospital Ludhiana, said, “Hypertension may not show symptoms, but it puts your heart, brain, kidneys and eyes at serious risk. A simple blood pressure check can reveal what your body won’t indicate.. Prevention and early diagnosis are key.”

The risk of hypertension increases with age, stress, sedentary lifestyle, poor dietary choices, obesity, smoking, and family history. If unmanaged, it can lead to life-altering complications. However, with early diagnosis and appropriate treatment, including medication, lifestyle changes, and regular follow-ups, it can be effectively controlled.

Doctors encourage people to maintain healthy  lifestyle to maintain a regulated blood pressure by practicing healthy lifestyle alternatives and medical vigilance. A well-balanced, low-sodium diet, combined with at least 30 minutes of daily physical activity, can significantly reduce the risk of hypertension.
