Fortis Manesar Marks World Kidney Day with Hydration Drive for Police Personnel
Manesar, 24th March, 2026: Reinforcing the importance of hydration in maintaining kidney and overall
health, Fortis Hospital Manesar today organized a hydration drive for police personnel of Manesar. As
part of the unique initiative, the hospital distributed 250 water campers (12 litres each) to police officers.
The activity also included an awareness talk on kidney care and importance of adequate hydration. The
initiative was led by the hospital’s Renal Sciences team.
The hospital also organized the second edition of its community awareness event, “Cyclothon 2.0 – Pedal for Kidneys, Healthy Kidneys for All.” The initiative witnessed enthusiastic participation from nearly 300
residents from the surrounding neighbourhood, including families, fitness enthusiasts, and community
members who came together to promote awareness about kidney health. The cyclothon aimed to
encourage people to adopt healthier lifestyle habits, raise awareness about the growing burden of kidney
diseases, and highlight the importance of early screening and preventive care. Members of the hospital’s
Renal Sciences team were present at the event to interact with participants, provide guidance on kidney
health, and share practical tips for prevention.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ruchir Maheshwari, Director - Urology & Renal Sciences, Fortis Hospital
Manesar, said: “Hydration is one of the simplest yet most important factors in maintaining kidney health.
India witnesses a seasonal rise in kidney-related conditions during peak summer months, with reports
indicating up to a 30-40% increase in kidney stone cases, largely linked to dehydration and heat exposure. Individuals working long hours in the heat, such as traffic police personnel, are particularly vulnerable. Inadequate fluid intake can increase the risk of kidney stones, infections, and even acute kidney injury. Simple measures like regular water intake and timely breaks can go a long way in protecting kidney
health.”
Adding to this, Dr Sahil Bagai, Senior Consultant & Unit Head – Nephrology, Fortis Hospital Manesar,
said, “The kidneys play a crucial role in maintaining the body’s fluid balance and removing toxins. When
the body is dehydrated for prolonged periods, it can place stress on the kidneys and increase the risk of
kidney stones and other complications. Regular hydration is essential, particularly during the summer
months, and awareness drives like this help encourage healthier habits among those who are most
exposed to heat.”
Abhijit Singh, Facility Director, Fortis Hospital Manesar said, “Fortis Hospital Manesar continues to
champion preventive healthcare while strengthening community awareness around kidney wellness. As
part of these efforts, the hospital had also organised the second edition of its community outreach
initiative, “Cyclothon 2.0 – Pedal for Kidneys, Healthy Kidneys for All,” which saw enthusiastic participation from nearly 300 residents from the surrounding neighbourhood. Despite its growing prevalence, kidney health remains a largely overlooked concern, underscoring the need for sustained awareness and early preventive action.”
