Fortis Mohali Organizes Cancer Survivors Meet to Celebrate Remarkable Strength of Cancer Survivors
Chandigarh, 6th June, 2026: Continuing its commitment and care towards cancer patients, Saarthak, the Cancer Support Group of Fortis Hospital Mohali organized a cancer survivors meet to honor and celebrate the remarkable strength of cancer survivors. Under the theme: ‘Celebration of Life’, the event brought together around 50 cancer survivors and their family members to share stories of victory over adversity and to inspire hope among others battling the deadly disease. During the event, cancer survivors shared their experiences, shedding light on their challenging journeys and ultimate win over the illness.
The event kicked off with a lamp-lighting ceremony led by Dr Rajeev Bedi, Director, Medical Oncology; along with Dr Narendra Bhalla, Director, Radiation Oncology; Dr Manishi Bansal, Senior Consultant, Radiation Oncology; Dr Shweta Tahlan, Senior Consultant, Gynae Onco-Surgery; Dr Jitender Rohila, Senior Consultant, GI Surgical Oncology and Robotic surgeon, Dr Naval Bansal, Senior Consultant, Breast and Endocrine Cancer Surgery, Dr Deepti Singh, Consultant, Breast and Endocrine Surgeon and cancer survivors. This was followed by a special workshop on mental well-being conducted by Anchal Sharma, Counselling Psychologist, Fortis Hospital Mohali, wherein she shared tips with the cancer survivors on stress management and encouraged them to stay positive at all times. Dr Sonia Gandhi, Head, Department of Dietetics and Nutrition, Fortis Hospital Mohali, also conducted another engaging session wherein the cancer survivors shared their inspiring stories. She also shared how a good diet was crucial to counter malnutrition and deficiencies during treatment.
Mamta (name changed), a cancer survivor, said, “I’m thankful to Fortis Mohali for this unique gesture and for letting others like me experience this engaging session. Such events offer us a platform to meet other cancer survivors where we exchange our views and experiences. This has strengthened my resolve to fight the disease and spread awareness about the same.”
Lauding the resilience of the cancer survivors, Dr Shweta Tahlan, Senior Consultant, Gynae Onco-Surgery, Fortis Hospital Mohali said, “Saarthak brings together cancer survivors to bond well and become each other’s support system. Getting diagnosed with the disease is a crucial moment for several patients, and they struggle to come to terms with it. This can often lead to loneliness. Hence, it is important for cancer survivors to join support groups such as Saarthak where they can voice their thoughts and emotions.”
