FORTIS MUMBAI LAUNCHES ‘HAR GHAR HERO’ TO BUILD A CPR-READY COMMUNITY ACROSS MUMBAI
~ Initiative aims to empower citizens with CPR preparedness and create a network of trained ‘Heroes’ equipped to respond during cardiac emergencies ~
Fortis Mumbai today announced the launch of ‘Har Ghar Hero’, a community-led CPR preparedness movement aimed at empowering citizens with the knowledge, skills and confidence to respond effectively during cardiac emergencies. The initiative seeks to reinforce the message that every household should have at least one person trained in CPR – a ‘Hero’ who can step forward when every second counts.
The initiative was inaugurated by Mrs. Hemangini Patil, Regional Transport Officer, Thane Region, who joined the Fortis Mumbai leadership and emergency medicine teams to highlight the importance of building CPR preparedness beyond hospital settings and into the wider community.
With sudden cardiac emergencies requiring immediate intervention, the first few minutes can play a critical role in determining outcomes. Through ‘Har Ghar Hero’, Fortis Mumbai aims to take CPR awareness and training closer to communities and create a wider ecosystem of individuals who are prepared to respond until professional medical assistance arrives.
As part of the initiative, Fortis Mumbai will collaborate with civic services, utility and transport providers, quick commerce platforms, housing societies, corporate organisations, educational institutions and other community groups to expand CPR awareness and preparedness across Mumbai. The initiative will focus on equipping people across diverse communities and public spaces with essential CPR skills, while building a wider network of trained first responders who can act swiftly during cardiac emergencies.
Fortis Mumbai will also launch a community survey to understand the level of emergency preparedness among Mumbaikars and assess public awareness of Basic Life Support (BLS), CPR and Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) which would help identify awareness gaps and inform future community training initiatives.
Speaking at the launch, Dr. S. Narayani, Business Head – Fortis Hospitals, Maharashtra, said, “With ‘Har Ghar Hero’, Fortis Mumbai is taking an important step towards making CPR preparedness a community priority. In a cardiac emergency, the first responder is often not a healthcare professional but a family member, colleague, neighbour or passer-by. Our aim is to build a culture where every household has at least one person who knows what to do when it matters most. Through sustained partnerships and community-led training, we hope to create a city that is better prepared to respond to emergencies.”
The initiative will be supported by Fortis Mumbai’s emergency medicine teams across its cluster hospitals, who will contribute their clinical expertise and facilitate CPR preparedness and emergency response training across communities.
Through ‘Har Ghar Hero’, Fortis Mumbai aims to build a sustained movement around CPR awareness and preparedness, creating a growing network of trained citizens who can act as ‘Heroes’ in moments when immediate action can make a difference.
