Jaipur, 16 April 2025: Fortis Escorts Jaipur’s SportsMed department, one of the first comprehensive sports injury centres in Rajasthan, today organized a special felicitation ceremony and an expert discussion session to mark the completion of 11 years of excellence in arthroscopy, sports medicine and injury rehabilitation. Around 100 sports medicine experts, players, coaches, physiotherapists, nutritionists, physical education professionals and social workers from different corners of the country participated in the momentous occasion.
The commemorative event was graced by Chief Guest Pandit Suresh Mishra, a noted social reformer, and Ms. Kriti Rathod, a respected name in community service and was also the Guest of Honour of the occasion. It also witnessed the presence of Mr. Pankaj Singh, Former Indian Cricketer, and Mr. Rajat Chauhan, Olympic medal-winning archer.
Founded in 2014, the SportsMed Department at Fortis Jaipur is Rajasthan’s first dedicated department specializing in minimally invasive sports surgeries and evidence-based rehabilitation protocols. Over the past decade, the department has provided treatment to thousands of athletes — from emerging local players to global sports professionals.
The Department’s success has been shaped under the visionary leadership of Dr. Vikram Sharma, Director of SportsMed, Fortis Escorts Jaipur and a globally acclaimed sports medicine expert. Dr. Sharma has been associated with other esteemed institutions such as the Badminton World Federation, BCCI, Rajasthan Cricket Academy, and was the President of the Indian Association of Sports Medicine. He is also an alumnus of the prestigious International Olympic Committee’s Sports Medicine Program.
Talking about the landmark journey of SportsMed Department, Dr. Sharma said "SportsMed Fortis Jaipur is the first comprehensive sports injury and sports medicine center in Rajasthan. I got the inspiration for coming up with a dedicated SportsMed department during my stint at the world-renowned Sports Medicine Institute in UPMC, Pittsburgh in the US. I was deeply encouraged to witness how players resumed their games post the right treatment and rehab. I wanted to establish something similar in India, thus SportsMed, a state-of-the-art center in Fortis Escorts Jaipur, so that world-class sports medicine facilities can be made available to the players of our state as well."
Dr. Sharma also informed that according to a recent report 73.4% of college students in Delhi have experienced sports injury at least once and 66.6% of schools lack health professionals related to sports injury.
