MUMBAI'S 35th CADAVERIC ORGAN DONATION OF 2026 AT FORTIS HOSPITAL, MULUND GIVES A NEW LEASE OF LIFE THROUGH LIVER TRANSPLANT 

~ Family's decision enables Mumbai's 31st liver donation of 2026, reinforcing the life-saving impact of deceased organ donation~ 

 In an extraordinary act of generosity during a time of immense grief, the family of a 37-year-old IT professional from Mumbai, chose to honour his legacy by consenting to organ and tissue donation after he was declared brain dead. Fortis Hospital, Mulund facilitated the donation process, enabling a life-saving liver transplant and offering hope to patients awaiting organ transplantation. This marks Mumbai's 35th cadaveric organ donation of 2026. 

 Survived by his wife, she took the courageous decision to donate his liver, corneas and skin. The liver was allocated through the Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre (ZTCC), Mumbai to a registered recipient at a local hospital. The transplant was successfully conducted by Dr. XX at Fortis Hospital, Mulund. The corneas and skin were also retrieved for patients in need. 

 Sharing the motivation behind their decision, the family said, "We want to keep our loved one alive through another person." 

 The Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre (ZTCC), Mumbai coordinated the organ allocation process, highlighting the importance of a transparent and efficient organ-sharing network in ensuring timely transplantation for waitlisted patients. 

 Dr. Vishal Beri, Facility Director, Fortis Hospital, Mulund, said, "Mumbai's 35th deceased organ donation this year is a testament to the growing awareness around organ donation and the invaluable role of families in making informed decisions during difficult times. We encourage more individuals to pledge organ donation and help bridge the critical gap between organ demand and availability." 

 According to ZTCC Mumbai, this is the 35th cadaveric organ donation in Mumbai in 2026 and the 31st liver donation this year. The successful transplant underscores the importance of timely counselling, seamless inter-hospital coordination and an efficient organ allocation system in enabling life-saving transplants. Healthcare experts continue to encourage greater public participation in deceased organ donation so that more patients waiting for transplants can receive a second chance at life.
