From Critical Heart Block to Rapid Recovery: Fortis Greater Noida Sets Benchmark with Advanced Pacemaker Implant
Fortis Hospital Greater Noida marked a major milestone in advanced cardiac care by successfully performing the region’s first dual-chamber leadless pacemaker implantation on a 67-year-old patient from Kenya diagnosed with complete heart block.
The patient had been experiencing recurrent fainting, severe fatigue, and dizziness, with his heart rate dropping to a critical 30–40 beats per minute. After a detailed evaluation, the cardiology team, led by Dr. Harnish Singh Bhatia, Consultant – Cardiology, recommended a next-generation dual-chamber leadless pacemaker.
This innovative technology involves two miniaturized devices implanted directly into the heart—one in the right atrium and the other in the right ventricle—communicating wirelessly to maintain a natural and synchronized heart rhythm. Unlike traditional pacemakers, this procedure does not require chest incisions or external leads.
The minimally invasive procedure was performed through a catheter-based approach and completed within two hours. The patient showed excellent recovery, with his heart rhythm restored and was discharged the very next day.
Highlighting this achievement, Mr. Siddharth Nigam, Facility Director, emphasized that the case reflects Fortis Greater Noida’s growing reputation as a destination for advanced cardiac care. This breakthrough reinforces the hospital’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge, patient-centric treatment solutions.
