HVFI Announces Rs 50 Lakh Support for Advanced Cardiac Treatment for Economically Challenged Patients from Assam

Guwahati, 25 July 2026: The Heart Valve Foundation of India (HVFI), led by Managing Trustee Dr. Ashok Seth, Chairman, Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, has announced ₹50 lakh in treatment support for eligible economically challenged patients from Assam requiring advanced cardiac care at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi. Patients will be referred by the Assam Government and treated completely free of cost, subject to clinical assessment.

The initiative, launched in partnership with Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, also includes concessional treatment at Assam Government rates for financially constrained patients requiring complex cardiac procedures, along with specialised training and knowledge exchange for doctors and medical students at Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH).

As part of the initiative, Dr. Ashok Seth, Dr. Aparna Jaswal and Dr. Ritwick Raj Bhuyan conducted scientific sessions for medical professionals, focusing on contemporary heart failure management, recent advances and complex cardiac cases.

The programme also featured Involve – A Unique Interactive Knowledge Exchange Forum, bringing together doctors from Fortis Escorts Heart Institute and Assam for clinical discussions and case-based learning focused on strengthening the continuum of cardiac care. Shri Ashok Singhal, Hon’ble Minister, Health and Family Welfare, Medical Education and Research Departments, Government of Assam, attended the evening programme and participated in the lamp-lighting ceremony. The programme was organised in collaboration with the Indian Medical Association, Assam Chapter, and the Northeast Chapter of the Cardiological Society of India.

Commenting on the initiative, Shri Ashok Singhal said the collaboration between Fortis Escorts, Okhla and HVFI complements Assam's vision by combining immediate treatment support with specialised clinical training, strengthening the ecosystem of cardiac care in the state.

Dr. Ashok Seth highlighted the financial barriers that often prevent patients with complex cardiac conditions from accessing advanced treatment, noting that the initiative aims to ensure socio-economically constrained patients from Assam can receive advanced care without cost becoming an insurmountable barrier.

Dr. Ritwick Raj Bhuyan emphasised the importance of providing patients with a direct pathway to advanced surgical interventions while strengthening clinical coordination and knowledge exchange with medical professionals in Assam. Dr. Aparna Jaswal highlighted the role of early recognition, accurate diagnosis and timely referral in improving outcomes for patients with complex cardiac conditions.

Dr. Vikram Aggarwal, Vice President & Head, Strategic Business Unit, Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, said the initiative reflects a strategic commitment to bridging the geographical gap between Assam and New Delhi and making advanced tertiary healthcare more accessible and affordable for people across the Northeast.
